The disease of vomiting and diarrhea (a syndrome characterized by vomiting and diarrhea) presents with a yellowish complexion. The etiology includes cold patterns, heat patterns, and food injury. A red face accompanied by fever and thirst is irrational; when the hands and feet are cold, it is urgent to tonify Yang.
The conventional treatment for vomiting and diarrhea involves taking one pill of Weiling Wan. For spleen accumulation and food stagnation, Lizhong Tang should be used to tonify deficiency and cold. Vomiting and diarrhea often result from food injury, making Yihuang San most appropriate. Once the pathological factors recede, Weiling Wan can be used again to tonify the Spleen. Diarrhea is generally treated this way, with the effect of eliminating accumulation being comprehensive.
If diarrhea is accompanied by thirst, Baizhu San is indicated. This formula consists of Renshen (Ginseng), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Fuling (Poria), Gancao (Licorice Root), along with Muxiang (Aucklandia Root), Qiange (Kudzu Root), and Huoxiang Ye (Patchouli Leaf). Frequent administration constitutes true medical wisdom.
If diarrhea is severe, add Wumei (Mume Fruit); if heat is severe, add Zhimu (Anemarrhena Rhizome) and Donggen (Ophiopogon Tuber); if deficiency is present, Gancao (Licorice Root) should be used after honey-frying. Medication must vary according to specific symptoms.
Both bloody and white dysentery indicate heat patterns, often accompanied by furrowed brows and abdominal pain. If the body is hot and the pulse is large, it is difficult to subside; if the pulse is small and the body is cool, recovery is easy.
Dysentery is mostly caused by accumulation. Initially, Muxiang Wan should be administered to purge; Baohe Wan eliminates stagnation; Xianglian Wan stops dysentery. If dysentery patients cannot eat, it becomes Jin Kou Li (Jin Kou Dysentery), which is critical. Urgently use Xianglian San; if the patient can eat, peace and safety are ensured.
Malaria often presents with a yellowish-black complexion. Upon onset, there is alternating chills and fever. Morning-onset malaria occurs daily and is easy to resolve; evening-onset or every-other-day malaria (Jian Ri Nue, intermittent malaria) requires urgent treatment.
For initial malaria with phlegm, Zhangu Dan and Changshan ( Dichroa Root) should be used to induce vomiting and expel phlegm. Chronic malaria should not be forcibly arrested; nourishing the Spleen yields complete efficacy.
Exposure to cold and consumption of cold drinks injure the Lung, leading to cough with abundant phlegm and qi. A cyan complexion, shortness of breath, and fear of fright are ominous; a pale complexion and distended chest are also inauspicious.
Initial cough requires releasing the exterior; Wuaos Tang or Jiubao Tang may be used. For excess qi, Tinglizi (Descurainia Seed) is suitable; for Lung deficiency, Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin) is good. Regularly服用 Yuye Wan; Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) combined with Gancao (Licorice Root) is also effective.
Wuaos Tang uses Mahuang (Ephedra Herb), Xingren (Apricot Seed), and Gancao (Licorice Root) for strong action. Adding Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) and La Cha Ye (Tea Leaf) makes it a miraculous sweating prescription.
Jiubao Tang pairs Suz Ye (Perilla Leaf) with Mahuang (Ephedra Herb), plus Bohe (Mint Herb), Chenpi (Tangerine Peel), Xingren (Apricot Seed), and Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig), along with Dafupi (Areca Pericarpium), Sangbaipi (Mulberry Root Bark), and Guolao (Licorice Root). Add Wumei (Mume Fruit) and consider carefully.
A yellowish-white complexion indicates Gan Lao (Pediatric Malnutrition/Consumption Disease). Characteristics include a distended abdomen, thin neck, and dry hair. It results from improper weaning, food injury, or post-illness weakness. One must fear recurring tidal fever.
There are few methods for treating Gan Lao; Jisheng Wan is initially miraculous. If the complexion turns ruddy and vibrant, alternate with Weiling Wan. If tidal fever does not recede, only guard against transformation into Man Jing Feng (Slow Convulsion Wind).
