Pulse: For ear diseases caused by Kidney deficiency, the pulse is slow and soggy; if caused by wind, the pulse is floating and large; if caused by fire pathogen, the pulse is surging and active; if caused by Qi stagnation, the pulse is deep and choppy; if caused by heat obstruction, the pulse is rapid and excess. For chronic deafness, the cause should be sought specifically in the Kidneys; sudden deafness with a floating and surging pulse, where both Chi (Cun-Kuan-Guan) positions are identical; or if both Chi positions are rapid, this indicates Yin fire rushing upward.
The ears are the orifices of the Kidneys. When Kidney Qi is deficient, it leads to deafness and tinnitus.
