Treats wind-cold accumulated in the Zang-Fu organs over a long period, disharmony of Qi and Blood, stagnation of retained fluid forming masses (lump-like growths); as well as blood masses (blood stasis masses) in women, obstruction in the intestines and stomach preventing food intake, cough with counterflow Qi and abdominal distension/fullness; as well as dysentery with red and white discharge, cholera with muscle spasms/cramps; as well as curling/spasms of limbs, pain in the lower back, spine, feet, and knees, inability to walk. Epilepsy (Dianxian) arises from shock/agitation, causing imbalance of Zang-Fu Qi, leading to Qi stagnation and generation of phlegm-saliva, blocking the meridians, resulting in Jue syndrome (reversal of Qi). It may originate from fright experienced in the womb, or contracting wind-cold-damp-heat in childhood, or irregular diet disrupting Zang-Fu Qi. Detailed analysis shows it involves all three Etiologies (San Yin). Wind, cold, summer-heat, and dampness come from external causes; fright and terror come from internal causes; dietary excess or hunger belong to neither internal nor external causes. Although the three etiologies differ, they all lead to rebellious Qi, transmitting through the five Zang organs, spreading to the six Fu organs, and overflowing into the collaterals. If one Zang organ is imbalanced, all meridians become blocked. Depending on the affected Zang organ, symptoms vary greatly, categorized by sounds resembling six livestock, classified by five vocalizations, with complexion, pulse, and signs varying according to the specific Zang organ's pathology. Ancient formulas mention Three Epilepsies, Five Zang Epilepsies, Six Livestock Epilepsies, and even one hundred and twenty types, due to differences in congenital constitution, strength of Zang-Fu organs, and temperament (restless or calm), causing diverse symptoms. Tracing the etiology reveals no more than three categories, exhaustively covering the disease origins.
