Treats the deficiency of Qi in the Five Zang organs, unregulated emotions of joy and anger, and a combination of overexertion and excessive rest. This leads to Yin and Yang overcoming each other, causing phlegm-fluids (Tan-Yin) to accumulate and bind with Defensive Qi (Wei Qi), resulting in Malaria (Nue Ji). This formula is indicated for all such cases. It is also highly effective for treating Miasmic Malaria (Zhang Li).
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, soaked in water to remove slipperiness) Fuling (Poria) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) Caoguo (Tsaoko Fructus) Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) Wumei Rou (Mume Fructus Flesh) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) Zaozi (Jujubae Fructus) [All in equal parts]
Crush the above ingredients into a coarse powder. Marinate with a small amount of salt for a moment, wrap in thick parchment paper, submerge in water, and simmer over slow fire until fragrant and thoroughly cooked. Then dry by baking. For each dose, weigh half liang, add two zhan of water, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, strain, and take all three doses together before the onset of the fever.
Treats Malaria caused by weak Qi in the Spleen and Stomach, where Yin and Yang overcome each other repeatedly.
Roudoukou (Myristicae Semen, half raw, half baked in flour paste) Caodoukou (Amomi Fructus Rotundus, prepared as above) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, half raw, half honey-fried) Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, half raw, half stir-fried with ginger juice) [Equal parts]
Crush into a coarse powder. For each dose, take four qian, add two zhan of water, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, strain, and take on an empty stomach.
Treats Spleen-Cold type Malaria and similar conditions.
Caoguo (Tsaoko Fructus) Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) Zisuye (Perillae Folium) Liangjiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried) Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, pith removed and stir-fried) [All in equal parts]
Make into a coarse powder. For each dose, take two large qian, add one zhan of water, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, strain, and take while hot. On the day of the attack, take three doses consecutively.
Qianhu (Peucedani Radix) Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) [Each four liang] Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus) Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, ginger-processed) Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, washed with water to remove slipperiness) [Each three liang] Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, processed) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [Each two liang]
Crush into a coarse powder. For each dose, take four large qian, add one and a half zhan of water, three slices of fresh ginger, and two jujubes. Decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, strain, and take warm.
When patients experience chills and fever, and within a year, both young and old present similarly, or when they contract epidemic pathogens transforming into alternating chills and fever, it is called Epidemic Malaria (Yi Nue). This can be deduced based on the annual cosmic movement (Sui Yun).
When patients have daily alternating chills and fever, experience ominous dreams, and feel frequent terror, it is called Ghost Malaria (Gui Nue). It is appropriate to use methods of taboo, avoidance, and exorcism.
When patients have sudden chills and sudden fever, with symptoms appearing and disappearing intermittently, which is common in the southern regions, it is called Miasmic Malaria (Zhang Nue). Treatment should be adapted to the local environment and climate.
When patients have chills and fever, feel hungry but cannot eat, experience abdominal distension and urgency/pain after eating, and the illness occurs daily, it is called Stomach Malaria (Wei Nue). The Six Fu organs do not suffer from Malaria; only the Stomach does, due to damage to Stomach Qi caused by irregular eating habits (overeating or starvation). The world calls this Food Malaria (Shi Nue). It may also arise from irregular diet during various types of Malaria, transforming into this condition.
When patients do not recover for a year, relapse after recovery, and cannot withstand long journeys, standing for long periods, or even slight exertion, it is called Labor Malaria (Lao Nue). There are also cases lasting several years without recovery, resistant to hundreds of medicines, forming masses (Pi) in the abdomen and hypochondrium, called Old Malaria (Lao Nue) or Mother Malaria (Mu Nue).
The above various syndromes have different names and manifestations, each with its specific treatment formula. One should investigate and apply them accordingly.
