After childbirth, Qi and Blood are depleted, and the Five Viscera are damaged; only tonification should be employed, and purgation or draining methods should be avoided. Although lochia may not be fully expelled, tonifying medicines should not be administered immediately. One must wait until after the seventh day, when the mass below the navel has dissipated, before administering tonics. If the pain is extremely severe, or if there is metrorrhagia, trauma, or diarrhea leading to emaciation, weakness, and asthmatic fatigue, or if other diseases arise complicating old ailments, one should consult various formulas, carefully examine and regulate the condition, without being bound by specific days. For instance, Heishen San (Black Divine Powder) can be used without restriction.
