Treatment for Yin-Du Cold Damage (Yin-Toxicity Cold Pathogen Invasion), presenting with mental restlessness and irritability, headache, coldness of the four limbs, cyanosis of the face, abdominal distension, and a deep and hidden pulse.
Sulfur (transparent and pure, five liang, ground separately) Niter (ground separately) Taiyin Xuanjing (Mineral Gypsum/Calcium Sulfate, two liang each, ground separately) Dried Ginger (processed by frying) Cinnamon Twig Heart Aconite Root (processed by frying, half liang each)
Take an iron pot, first spread the Xuanjing at the bottom, then add half of the Niter powder and half of the other medicinal powders, spread the Sulfur powder in the middle, and cover it again with the remaining two mineral powders. Cover with a small cup, burn with three jin of well-burnt charcoal until the heat is appropriate, ensuring no smoke escapes. Quickly place a clay basin upside down on the ground, cover the four sides with ash to prevent smoke from escaping. After cooling, take out and grind into fine powder. Add the subsequent medicines, grind into powder, mix evenly, make pills with rice paste, size like wu-tou seeds (Cocculus trilobus seeds). Take 20-30 pills per dose, decoct mugwort water to swallow, take once as a single dose, stop when sweating occurs; if symptoms do not subside, use large moxa cones to moxibustion the Dantian (Sea of Qi) and Qihai (Sea of Qi) acupoints below the navel; if still not subsiding, chew green onion and apply hot compress.
Treatment for Qi deficiency and Yang collapse, presenting with cold body, absence of pulse, faint breath nearing cessation, unconsciousness; as well as Yin-Jue (Cold Reversal) due to Cold Damage, where various medicines are ineffective.
One bundle of green onions, tied with rope to the size of a pie filling, remove roots and leaves, keeping only the white part about two cun long. First, heat one side over fire until thoroughly warm but not scalding. Place the heated side against the patient's lower abdomen (below the navel), and use a warming pan filled with fire to press/heal over it, allowing the heat from the onion cake to penetrate into the abdomen. Prepare three or four more onion cakes; replace immediately when one becomes unusable. Wait until the patient wakes up, hands and feet become warm, and sweat appears, indicating recovery. Then, administer Sini Decoction (Recovery Decoction) for better results.
Yang-Du disease presents with agitation and fever, red face, sore throat, skin rashes resembling brocade patterns, diarrhea with red and yellow excrement, internal and external accumulation of heat, scorched tongue and black nose resembling soot, delirious speech and running wildly. This is often caused by dryness and heat in the intestines and stomach, excessive Yang qi, sudden exhaustion of Yin qi, and the mistaken consumption of drying/hot medicines or hot foods.
Treatment for Yang-Du. Cold Damage may transform into Yang-Du within one or two days, or after taking medicines that induce vomiting or purging. Symptoms include back pain, restlessness and discomfort, red face and delirious speech, running away, seeing ghosts, diarrhea, red face with mottled rashes like brocade, sore throat, passage of pus and blood, and a large, floating, and rapid pulse. Treatable within five days; untreatable after seven days.
Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma, 升麻, half liang) Rhinoceros Horn (Xijiao, 犀角 - *Note: Modern substitutes usually used*) Belamcanda Rhizome (Shegan, 射干) Scutellaria Root (Huangqin, 黄芩) Codonopsis Root (Renshen, 人参) Licorice Root (Gancao, 甘草, roasted, one fen each)
Grind all ingredients into a coarse powder. Take five qianbi (approx. 5-10 grams depending on era measurement) per dose. Add one stan (approx. 200ml) of water, decoct until reduced to seven tenths, strain, and drink hot. Administer three to four doses continuously, cover warmly to induce sweating as the goal.
