The Lung serves as the Hua Gai (Canopy covering the five Zang organs), and all meridians derive their Qi from the Lung; the nose acts as the Chang He (Gate/Portal) of the Lung, inhaling various odors, protecting and nourishing the five Zang organs, and regulating the ascent and descent of Yin and Yang. Thus, the nose is the pathway for clear Qi. However, internal stagnation of the Seven Emotions (Joy, Anger, Worry, Pensiveness, Sorrow, Fear, Fright) or external invasion by the Six Exogenous Pathogens (Wind, Cold, Summer-heat, Dampness, Dryness, Fire), combined with improper diet and labor/rest, can cause a failure to distinguish between Clear and Turbid Qi. This leads to Qi obstruction, resulting in symptoms such as clear nasal discharge, Bi Dong (nasal cavities/polyps), turbid pus, brain-like mucus strands, Nu Xue (Epistaxis), and flesh growths. Over time, these may develop into polyps. Although the manifestations vary, they invariably involve the Three Causes (Internal, External, and Neither Internal nor External). This can lead to chaos in the Ni Wan Palace (referring to the upper Dantian or brain region) and generate various syndromes.
Treats Lung deficiency with Qi stagnation, where nasal polyps grow, causing anosmia (loss of smell).
