When the infant is in the mother's womb, the blood is steamed by heat pathogens. After birth, it is inevitably exposed to cool winds, causing millet-grain-sized spots to appear all over the body. This is called Saozhen (itching rash), and there is no need for excessive discussion.
Note: Saozhen refers to the condition where the fetus has been long steamed by the maternal blood-heat qi during gestation. Upon birth, external exposure to cool winds causes red spots all over the body, resembling millet grains. Those appearing within one month are called Lanyi Chuang (rotten garment sore); those appearing within one hundred days are called Baitian Chuang (hundred-day sore); those appearing before the eruption of smallpox are named Saozhen. With careful nursing, they heal spontaneously without treatment.
The rash appearing after smallpox is covered due to the transmission of smallpox toxins. The residual toxins are not yet exhausted, complicated by dietary accumulation and cold pathogens. The whole body itches like cloud patches. Taking Jiawei Xiaodu Yin (Modified Detoxification Decoction) brings immediate relief.
Note: "Gaizhen" (rash covering smallpox) means that while the smallpox is just healing, the rash erupts simultaneously. Because the residual toxins from smallpox are not fully cleared, combined with indulgent diet and external contraction of wind-cold, rashes erupt all over the body. They are red in color and itchy, starting as millet grains and gradually forming cloud-like patches. It is appropriate to use Jiawei Xiaodu Yin to dispel wind and clear heat, and the rash will heal.

Prescription Verse: Gaizhen arises from wind-heat, Jiawei Xiaodu Ling is most effective; Jingjie, Fangfeng, Niubang, Shengma, and Gancao, Chishaoyao, Shan Zha, and Lianqiao follow suit.
Heart fire scorches Lung metal, compounded by wind-dampness toxicity. Faintly visible rash points erupt on the skin. Use Qianghuo San to dispel wind and scatter dampness, followed by Xiaodu Yin to completely eliminate remaining heat.
Note: Yinzhen (urticaria/hidden rash) is caused by heart fire scorching lung metal, combined with external contraction of wind-dampness. It must be accompanied by severe itching and red color, hidden faintly within the skin, hence named Yinzhen. First, use Jiajian Qianghuo San to dispel wind and scatter dampness; subsequently, use Jiawei Xiaodu Yin to clear heat and detoxify. When both exterior and interior are cleared, the rash heals.
