Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata (prepared, skin and umbilicus removed, half tael) Cortex Moutan (one tael) Resina Drynariae (one tael)
Crush the above herbs into fine powder. Use one sheng of vinegar and one tael of Rhizoma et Radix Imperatoriae powder, boil together until a paste is formed. Mix with the herbal powder to make pills, sized like Sophora japonica seeds. Swallow five to seven pills with warm wine.
The third treatise states: What causes difficult labor? The answer is: After conception, the fetus resides in the abdomen, consuming the mother's blood each time she eats. Excessive accumulation of blood forms a mass, called "Quanbao Yin".
Moschus (one qian) Fermented Soja Semen Preparatum (one tael, wrapped in an old green cloth bag, burned until red hot, then ground finely with milk)
Crush the above herbs into fine powder. Take a scale weight, heat it until red hot, quench it in wine, mix with one qian-bi of the powder for administration. Cuisheng Dusheng San (Formula recorded under Fifteen Questions on Prenatal Care) Perillae Folium
The fourth treatise states: What causes postpartum blood dizziness? The answer is: Postpartum blood dizziness. It occurs because excessive bleeding during childbirth leads to extreme deficiency of blood and qi, resulting in dizziness and faintness, and in severe cases, coma. Xiongkui Tang and Heilong Dan are both essential formulas. Alternatively, use the smoke from burning Resina Drynariae to irritate the nose.
Folium Eupatorii (Ze Lan Ye) Radix Ginseng (remove rhizome, one tael each) Spica Schizonepetae (four taels) Radix Chuanxiong (two taels) Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (roasted, eight qian)
Crush the above herbs into fine powder. For each dose, take one qian in weight, mix evenly with a small half cup of hot water or warm wine, and administer rapidly. Once the medicine passes the throat, the eyes will open, breathing will stabilize, and consciousness will return.
(These formulas are all recorded under Treatment of Miscellaneous Diseases after Childbirth.)
The fifth treatise states: What causes dry mouth and chest fullness after childbirth? The answer is: After childbirth, blood and qi are suddenly deficient, and the spleen and stomach become weak. Eating noodles too early causes food stagnation in the epigastrium. Noodle toxicity invades the diaphragm.
Rhizoma Alpiniae Officinarum (cut, roasted) Rhizoma Curcumae Longae Fructus Tetracondae Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (remove white pith) Rhizoma Curcumae Zedoariae (prepared, sliced) Radix Ginseng Rhizoma Sparganii
Crush the above herbs into fine powder. Boil radish slowly over low heat until soft, grind finely, and use the remaining juice to cook a flour paste. Mix with the powder to make pills, sized like Sophora japonica seeds. Take at any time. Use radish...
The sixth treatise states: What causes alternating chills and fever after childbirth? The answer is: Childbirth fatigue injures blood and qi. Blood belongs to Yin, and Qi belongs to Yang. When blood and qi are injured, it also affects the fetal house, causing chills and fever, though the difference lies in the urgency of lower abdominal pain. If Yin and Yang are disharmonious, Zengsun Siwu Tang is suitable; if retained blood lingers, Duoming Dan is suitable.
