When the Spleen Meridian presents with a Floating Pulse (Fu Mai, floating pulse), the pathogenic factor is located in the Lung. When the Large Intestine Meridian (which shares a exterior-interior relationship with the Lung) presents with a Hollow Pulse (Kou Mai, hollow pulse), the pathogenic factor is located in the Five Zang Organs and has no relation to the Six Fu Organs.
If a Wiry Pulse (Xian Mai, wiry pulse) is seen, the pathogenic factor is located in the Liver and involves the Gallbladder Meridian. If a Tight Pulse (Jin Mai, tight pulse) is seen, the pathogenic factor is located in the Bladder Meridian. If a Surging Pulse (Hong Mai, surging pulse) is seen, the pathogenic factor is located in the Heart and involves the Bladder and Kidney meridians. If a Fine/Micro Pulse (Wei Mai, micro pulse) is seen, the pathogenic factor is located in the San Jiao (Triple Burner) and Ming Men (Gate of Life). If a Deep Pulse (Chen Mai, deep pulse) is seen, the pathogenic factor is located in the Kidney Meridian. If a Moderate/Slack Pulse (Huan Mai, moderate pulse) is seen, the pathogenic factor is located in the meridian itself. (If the pulse is excessively slack or excessively tight, the disease is in the Stomach Meridian). If a Choppy Pulse (Se Mai, choppy pulse) is seen, the pathogenic factor is located in the Lung and Kidney. If a Soft/Soggy Pulse (Ru Mai, soggy pulse) is seen, the pathogenic factor is located in the Bladder Meridian. If a Weak Pulse (Ruo Mai, weak pulse) is seen, the pathogenic factor is located in the Kidney and Ming Men. If a Slow Pulse (Chi Mai, slow pulse) is seen, the pathogenic factor is located in the Large Intestine Meridian.
If a Hidden Pulse (Fu Mai, hidden pulse) is seen, the pathogenic factor is located within the Three Channels (Qi Channel, Blood Channel, and Jin-Ye/Body Fluid Channel; in women, it is affected by the Ming Men). If a Deficient Pulse (Xu Mai, deficient pulse) is seen, the pathogenic factor is located in the Pericardium Collateral. (This refers to the fact that the count/rate of the six positions has not been missing).
If all other positions show no abnormality, and only a pathological pulse appears specifically in the Spleen Meridian, it should be diagnosed as a disease affecting the Spleen Meridian.
When the Six Zang Organs are diseased, the pulse forms may be similar and unclear; observing the San Jiao reveals similarities, where similarity implies no difference.
When the Five Zang Organs are diseased, the pulse forms may be similar and unclear; observing the Spleen reveals similarities, where similarity implies no difference.
If the Spleen Meridian shows a Floating Pulse, the Lung Meridian also shows a Floating Pulse, indicating Wind in the Lung.
If the San Jiao shows a Floating Pulse, the Large Intestine Meridian also shows a Floating Pulse, indicating Wind in the Large Intestine.
If the Spleen Meridian shows a Hollow Pulse, it corresponds to the Five Zang Organs and has no relation to the San Jiao.
If the Spleen Meridian shows a Slippery Pulse (Hua Mai, slippery pulse), the [chest/prosperous area] also shows a Slippery Pulse.
If the San Jiao shows a Slippery Pulse, the Stomach Meridian also shows a Slippery Pulse.
If the Spleen Meridian shows an Excess/Full Pulse (Shi Mai, excess pulse), the Heart Meridian also shows an Excess Pulse.
If the San Jiao shows an Excess Pulse, the Small Intestine Meridian also shows an Excess Pulse.
If the Spleen Meridian shows a Wiry Pulse, the Liver Meridian also shows a Wiry Pulse.
If the San Jiao shows a Wiry Pulse, the Gallbladder Meridian also shows a Wiry Pulse.
If the Spleen Meridian shows a Tight Pulse, the Kidney Meridian also shows a Tight Pulse.
If the Spleen Meridian shows a Surging Pulse, the Heart Meridian also shows a Surging Pulse.
If the San Jiao shows a Surging Pulse, the Small Intestine Meridian also shows a Surging Pulse.
Floating, Surging, Soggy, and Deficient pulses belong to the "Flat" category. Round, Hollow, Slippery, Full, Deep, and Slow pulses belong to another category.
The Sharp/Piercing pulse is represented only by the Fine thread-like pulse. Long, Rapid, Tight, Wiry, and Micro pulses belong to one category.
Moderate, Weak, Choppy, and Hidden pulses all belong to the Long category. The eighteen pulse forms must be carefully recognized.
