Dream emission is associated with the Heart. "Ghostly intercourse" (hallucinations or symptoms of sexual intercourse in dreams) is associated with the Liver. The retention of essence is associated with the Kidney. When the Ministerial Fire (Heart Fire) moves recklessly, the Ministerial Fire (Liver and Kidney Fire) follows suit, thus causing these symptoms. To treat this condition, one must not only use astringent herbs to stop the leakage of essence but also clear the Heart Fire; not only clear the Heart Fire but also tonify the deficiency. It is precisely because of deficiency that the fire easily becomes reckless; it is precisely because the fire becomes reckless that the essence easily leaks.
For dream emission and spontaneous emission, one should examine the Chi pulse: if the Chi pulse is faint and choppy, it indicates damage to essence and blood; if the Chi pulse is surging and rapid, it indicates being forced by heat. There are also cases caused by Heart Qi deficiency, manifested as a short and small pulse at the Cun position on the left. If the pulse is slow, the prognosis is good, and life can be sustained; if the pulse is urgent and rapid, the prognosis is poor, and premature death may occur.

Night sweating is attributed to the Heart. Spontaneous sweating is attributed to the Lung. Night sweating occurs because the Heart Spirit cannot remain within; spontaneous sweating occurs because the Lung Qi cannot consolidate. If untreated for a long time, it leads to the loss of Hun and Po (spiritual vitality).
To diagnose sweating disorders, observe the pulse: a floating and deficient pulse, or a choppy or soggy pulse. Spontaneous sweating abnormalities are often found at the Cun position, while night sweating abnormalities are often found at the Chi position. Anyone whose pulse shows weakness, fineness, or thinness will inevitably suffer from night sweating.
