Sweating during sleep (Dao Han) belongs to Blood Deficiency and Yin Deficiency. In children, it does not require treatment; fresh ginger is contraindicated. Li Dongyuan has a prescription, using Danggui Liu Huang Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Six Yellow Decoction), which is very effective.
However, the medicinal nature is cold; for those with deficiency constitution, only Huangqi Liuyi Tang (Astragalus Six-to-One Decoction) should be used. Sweating during sleep accompanied by fever is due to Yin Deficiency; use Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) plus Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark); if Qi Deficiency is also present, add Renshen (Ginseng), Huangqi (Astragalus Root), and Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome).
Dai Yun said: Sweating during sleep refers to sweating while sleeping; without sleep, there is no sweating. When in deep sleep, sweat flows quietly; upon waking, it stops. It is not like spontaneous sweating (Zi Han) that occurs naturally. For miscellaneous diseases involving sweating during sleep, the cause is attributed to Yang Deficiency, which differs from sweating during sleep in Shanghan (Cold Damage); it is also caused by Heart Deficiency. One should astringe Heart Qi and nourish Kidney Water, so that Yin and Yang harmonize, and Fire and Water ascend and descend normally, whereupon the sweating will cease on its own.
