Therefore, the epitaph of Master Zhu Danxi
Biography of Old Man Danxi
In Yang Chuyu's compilation of *Xinfa* (Heart Method), the sections regarding syndromes such as edema (water swelling), deficiency swelling, gout, joint pain, numbness, and urinary retention in women contain repetitive text. Other discussions were appended among them. Although this supplements omissions, it inevitably causes confusion and difficulty in distinction, obscuring Danxi's main principles for treating diseases. Wang Ji therefore corrected the positive treatises and appendices where formulas were not fully recorded, creating an appendix. For instance, regarding formulas like Chunshugen Wan (Toona Sinensis Root Pill for Spermatorrhea), Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill for Stranguria), and Sanbu Wan (Three-Tonic Pill for Women), instead of recording Danxi's original formulas, he took formulas with the same names from other books but added ingredients that were far removed from the pathology. (Chong) feared that users might not examine this carefully, leading to errors. Now, based on Danxi's original treatises, I have examined and corrected omissions and errors, recording them at the beginning of each syndrome. Next, I have appended Dai Yuanli's differentiation of syndromes, followed by the correct formulas, to show that orthodox methods are not mixed. The appendices are not removed; they are titled "Appendix" to preserve the editor's intent. Furthermore, all formulas in the appendices are fully recorded under the title "Attached Formulas," lest people arbitrarily delete or select them, so that things may be clear. I have also added surgical methods such as Dao Cang (Inverting the Granary), to supplement what was lacking. Readers should examine these in detail.
