The human heart possesses orifices, within which are fine filaments (referring to the collateral vessels of the Heart orifice). Postpartum weakness often leads to stagnation and accumulation; failing blood blocks the Heart orifice, preventing the spirit and consciousness from becoming clear. Furthermore, Heart Qi connects with the tongue; if Heart Qi is obstructed, the tongue becomes stiff, resulting in postpartum aphasia. It is appropriate to administer Qizhen San (Seven Treasures Powder). Cases caused by fright belong to Wind-Heat in the Liver Channel; use Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) with added Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), and Gouteng (Uncaria Rhynchophylla). Cases caused by worry, thought, and emotional constraint should be treated with Jiawei Guipi Tang (Modified Restore the Spleen Decoction) with added Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma). A postpartum woman presented with aphasia; after taking Qizhen San, she recovered. Later, aphasia recurred accompanied by internal heat and afternoon tidal fever, limb fatigue, and loss of appetite. The primary treatment was Jiawei Guipi Tang, supplemented with Qizhen San, leading to recovery. Subsequently, due to anger, she developed aphasia, locked jaw, opisthotonos (backward arching of the back), convulsions of the hands and feet, occasional hematuria, and facial complexion that was red, blue, or yellow. I stated: Blue complexion indicates the color of the Liver; yellow indicates deficiency of Spleen Qi; red indicates deficiency of Heart Blood. Treatment involved Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) with added Gouteng (Uncaria Rhynchophylla), Fuling (Poria), and Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix), resulting in gradual improvement, followed by complete recovery using Jiawei Guipi Tang.
