Wind Stroke of the Heart
When wind pathogen strikes the Heart, the patient lies supine with fever and aphonia (loss of voice), red lips, sweating body; if white, black, green, or yellow colors appear on the lips, accompanied by intermittent twitching and惊动 (startle) of the facial muscles, it is a critical sign.
In Wind Stroke of the Heart, the patient cannot turn or lie on their side while supine, suffers from fever and loss of voice, and the tongue is scorched and red. If sweat flows profusely and lips are red, it is treatable; moxibustion may be applied to Xinshu (BL15). If the lips show mixed white, black, green, or yellow colors, this indicates Heart Qi failure leading to water retention, and if the face and eyes twitch intermittently, it is untreatable. Xinshu (BL15) is located 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the fifth thoracic vertebra.
The measurement method for the Five Zang Back-Shu points described in *Qianjin Yifang* is the same as the note in the commentary on *Nan Jing Chapter 67*: for males, use the left hand; for females, use the right hand. One cun is defined as the transverse width of the middle joint of the middle finger.
Wind Stroke of the Liver
When wind pathogen strikes the Liver, the patient sits upright in anger unable to bow the head, experiences pain on the left hypochondrium, and tendon spasms; if the forehead, eyes, and lips are green, it is treatable; if the eyes are yellow or white, it is distressing and difficult to treat.
In Wind Stroke of the Liver, the patient sits upright unable to bow the head, looks upward with irritability, has left-sided hypochondriac pain, general tendon cramping and urgency, tremors of the head and eyes, and greenish discoloration around the eyes. If the eyes and forehead are slightly green and the complexion is yellow, it is treatable; moxibustion may be applied to Ganshu (BL18). If the color is deep green-black, and one eye is yellow and the other white, it is untreatable. Ganshu (BL18) is located 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the ninth thoracic vertebra.
Wind Stroke of the Kidney
When wind pathogen strikes the Kidney, the patient sits upright with lumbar and spinal pain, facial edema, black ears, resembling internal generation of "thief wind"; if there are no yellow spots on the hypochondrium, recovery is possible; otherwise, collapse may occur within a day or two.
In Wind Stroke of the Kidney, the patient sits upright with lumbar and spinal pain radiating to the lower abdomen, facial edema, and black earlobes. Observing the left and right hypochondria, if there are no small yellow spots, it is treatable; moxibustion may be applied to Shenshu (BL23). If there are yellow spots on the hypochondrium, the complexion is like earth, the sideburns stand erect, and teeth are yellow-red, it is untreatable. Shenshu (BL23) is located 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the fourteenth thoracic vertebra.
Wind Stroke of the Lung
When wind pathogen strikes the Lung, there is rapid breathing and chest fullness; lying supine causes abnormal dryness and oppression; the area between the mouth and nose should appear white; seeking clothes and touching empty space indicates Lung failure, and a yellow color is worrying.
In Wind Stroke of the Lung, the patient lies supine with chest fullness and shortness of breath, wheezing with cough, dryness and oppression with sweating, and a white tip of the nose. If the area under the eyes, around the nose, and extending to the mouth is white, it is treatable; moxibustion may be applied to Feishu (BL13). If the color is yellow, this indicates Lung failure leading to blood extravasation, and combined with symptoms of seeking clothes and touching empty space, it is untreatable. Feishu (BL13) is located 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the third thoracic vertebra.
Wind Stroke of the Spleen
When wind pathogen strikes the Spleen, muscles twitch; the patient sits upright with abdominal fullness and vomiting of salty and sour fluids; if the lips and limbs are all yellow, it is difficult to cure; if the hands, feet, and eyes are blue-green, it is even harder to treat.
In Wind Stroke of the Spleen, the patient sits upright with abdominal fullness, skin and muscle twitching, and flaccid limbs, with yellow lips. If the whole body is yellow and vomits salty juice, it is treatable; moxibustion may be applied to Pishu (BL20). If... (original text breaks here, presumably describing contraindications).
Wind Stroke of the Stomach
Stomach disease originates from diet; the patient lifts shoulders to breathe, gasps with difficulty, opens mouth with sweating on the forehead, and has abdominal fullness; floating pulse at both Guan positions is large.
In Wind Stroke of the Stomach, there is abdominal fullness and blockage, diaphragmatic obstruction, open-mouthed panting, excessive sweating on the forehead. This is what Sun Dixian called "Stomach Wind," occurring when wind pathogen strikes after fresh food intake. Weishu (BL21) is located 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the twelfth thoracic vertebra.
Malignant Signs of Wind Stroke
Malignant signs of wind stroke must be carefully investigated: locked jaw with rapid pulse is worrying; eyes closed tight or staring wildly; face crimson or black with hands difficult to retract.
Mouth open with foaming and coarse breathing; hair standing erect, head shaking, and no sweat flowing.
Snoring with phlegm rattle in the throat, cold nose, enuresis, and bloody diarrhea are all signs of cessation.
Wind stroke often presents with aversion to wind and spontaneous sweating. Heart wind pulse is floating and surging; Liver wind pulse is floating and wiry; Kidney wind pulse is floating and slippery; Lung wind pulse is floating and choppy; Spleen wind pulse is floating and moderate.
One may examine the three positions (Cun, Guan, Chi) or take pulses according to the affected Zang organ; they cannot be generalized. Physicians must distinguish them clearly.

Taiyang Wind Syndrome Manifestations
Taiyang Wind syndrome begins with fever, abdominal pain, panting, and floating saliva; next, locked jaw, head shaking, slight movement of ten fingers, gradually progressing to rigidity of neck and back, turning leads to insensitivity. Severe cases include coma, aphonia, fixed gaze, incontinence, and opisthotonos. In such cases, ten out of ten are incurable. Postpartum blood deficiency with sweating and wind injury also presents as wind stroke. For any postpartum fever, if tongue is stiff, lips are tight, and fingers move slightly, immediately treat as wind stroke with Jinggui Tang (Schizonepeta and Angelica Decoction) or Duhuo Jiu (Angelica Pubescens Wine). (Formulas see in Dampness Section.)
When humans are invaded by evil pathogens, disease arises. Whether it is qi, blood, phlegm, water, wind, cold, summerheat, or dampness; affecting Zang-Fu, exterior-interior, cold-heat, deficiency-excess—each has its specific location of pathology. The method of medication must trace the origin, only then can the disease be cured. Otherwise, as former sages said, hunting without knowing where the rabbit is, casting a wide net over the wilderness hoping to catch one, is a sloppy technique. How can one test their skills on people?
