One asks: Fuzi Tang and Zhenwu Tang differ only by swapping one herb. Why does Zhenwu Tang govern the movement of water and gathering of Yin, while Fuzi Tang governs the return of Yang and vigorous tonification? It is because in Zhenwu Tang, Shengjiang assists Shu Fuzi, merely taking advantage of its pungent-hot nature to disperse fluid retention in the meridians. In Fuzi Tang, Renshen assists Sheng Fuzi, purely utilizing its warming and tonifying power to restore scattered Yuan Yang. Moreover, the dosages of Fuzi and Baizhu in Fuzi Tang are doubled compared to Zhenwu Tang, so their proportions are naturally different. Thus, their primary indications are vastly different; how can they be viewed as simple analogies?
