A woman, after childbirth, developed a carbuncle on her breast. The swelling persisted for nearly half a month. She experienced generalized pain as if pricked by needles and was unable to eat. Upon examination, the pulse in all six positions was deep, tight, and forceful. Observation revealed that the left breast, extending to the chest and hypochondrium, was swollen. I prescribed Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang), Puerariae Radix (Gegen), Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), and Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao), instructing her to take it warm to induce sweating. On the following day, upon re-examination, she said: "After taking the medicine yesterday, I sweated profusely. The generalized pain has completely resolved, the swelling on the breast has subsided, and my appetite has returned. Previous prescriptions of more than ten different formulas yielded no effect; why did this single formula produce such remarkable results?" I replied: "The *Jin Gui Yao Lue* states: 'Postpartum women are prone to wind-strike.' The *Sheng Qi Tong Tian Lun* chapter says: 'When the opening and closing mechanisms fail, cold pathogen enters, Ying Qi fails to circulate smoothly, becomes reversed within the muscle tissue, and thus generates carbuncles and swellings.' This case is due to external constriction by wind-cold and internal closure of heat, leading to disharmony of Ying and Wei Qi, resulting in pain and swelling. Other physicians merely used cooling herbs to treat the heat, failing to understand the principle of restoring the opening and closing of the pores. Now that the hair follicles have opened, the Qi mechanism rotates freely, Ying and Wei Qi circulate normally, and the pain and swelling resolve. The *Nei Jing* states: 'When food enters the stomach, its essence is dispersed to the Liver.' This swelling involves the Yangming and Jueyin meridians, which caused the loss of appetite. Now that the meridian Qi is unblocked, appetite naturally returns."
Another elderly woman presented with bilateral cheek edema, with a plum-sized nodule on each side. She stated: "My niece died from Shu Luo (scrofula/lymphatic tuberculosis); another niece also succumbed to Shu Luo. I am deeply worried about my condition." Upon palpation, the pulse at both Cun positions was floating and large. Her symptoms included headache and fever. I said: "Do not worry. Your condition is Shu Luo caused by wind-cold sinking into the vessels. It will be cured with a formula that releases the muscles and disperses pathogens. This differs from the Shu Luo suffered by your nieces. In those two young women, the root of the disease lay in the Zang organs, while the branch manifested in the vessels. Originally, it was a malignant disease with moxibustion and acupuncture treatments recorded in the *Gu Kong Pian* (Bone Empty Chapter) of the *Nei Jing*. If treated according to these ancient methods, death would not have occurred; their demise resulted from lack of timely intervention. Alas! Those who treat sores and ulcers must not neglect the *Nei Jing*!"
