Yangmei Chuang (Syphilis/Chancre), caused by Tianxing Shidu (epidemic pathogenic toxins), can also be contracted through transmission or inherited from congenital predisposition. When affected in spring, the pathology resides in the Liver, so it often originates in the lower body. If treatment is inappropriate, it may lead to damage of the eyes, corruption and atrophy of the penis, and flexion contracture of the limbs and joints. At the initial stage, if symptoms are more prevalent on the upper body, Jingfang Baidu San (Atractylodes and Saposhnikovia Decoction) should be used first; if symptoms are more prevalent on the lower body, Longdan Xiegan Tang (Gentian Liver-Draining Decoction) should be used first. For constipation, Dalianqiao Yin (Large Forsythia Drink) is used, followed by Huanji Xiaodu San (Skin-Rejuvenating and Toxin-Clearing Powder). If the eyes have been damaged, Jiwei Lushui Wan (Nine-Ingredient Aloe Pill) and Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) are used concurrently. For limb joint contractures, Juanbi Jiedu Tang (Bi-Syndrome-Dispelling and Toxin-Clearing Decoction) is used concurrently. If the condition fails to heal due to Spleen and Stomach deficiency, Yigong San (Yi-Gong Powder) is used first, followed by Huanji Xiaodu San. The use of Qinfen (Calomel) often leads to severe, deteriorating syndromes.
A one-year-old child contracted this disease and was mistakenly fumigated with Yinzhu (Cinnabar) medicine, resulting in coma, refusal to nurse, and total skin shedding. Mung bean powder and Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai, 黄柏) were scattered over the mat for the child to lie upon. Additionally, Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua, 金银花) and Raw Licorice Root (Sheng Gancao, 生甘草) were powdered and mixed with warm water for oral administration, leading to gradual recovery. If the sores are dry and accompanied by diarrhea, Danggui Gao (Angelica Sinensis Ointment) is applied. Cases involving mistaken use of Qinfen are also treated with the aforementioned remedies to resolve toxicity.
Another child suffered from this disease for over a year without healing, presenting with emaciation and worsening symptoms in the late afternoon. Bazhen Tang (Eight-Treasure Decoction) was administered in the morning, and Huanji San (Skin-Rejuvenating Powder) in the evening, along with external application of Taiyi Gao (Great One Plaster). Recovery occurred after three months.
A third child, who previously had Ganchi (Liver-related Parasitic Disease), contracted the aforementioned syndrome, presenting with dripping pus, abdominal distension, vomiting, and a heavy, bearing-down sensation in the lower abdomen. I proposed using Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) to raise and tonify Middle Qi. The family disagreed and continued administering detoxifying agents, which exacerbated wheezing, coughing, and salivation. I diagnosed Spleen Qi deficiency and Lung Qi weakness. Buzhong Yiqi Tang was given in the morning, and Wuwei Yigong San (Five-Ingredient Yi-Gong Powder) in the evening. As Yuanqi (Original Qi) gradually recovered, Huanji Xiaodu San was added as an adjunct, leading to eventual recovery.
A fourth child presented with the disease immediately after birth because the mother had previously suffered from it. The child was treated with Huanji San, while the mother took over fifty doses. The child’s lesions were treated with Danggui Gao mixed with Jinhuang San (Golden Yellow Powder) applied topically, resulting in quick recovery.
A fourteen-year-old child was treated with fumigation, leading to generalized edema of the limbs and face. Within days, the entire body skin ulcerated, appearing devoid of skin, with dripping pus. The child was given a decoction of Honeysuckle Flower and Licorice Root to drink freely, and the powdered herbs were scattered over the body and bedding for lying upon. After about half a month, the skin improved slightly, and subsequent treatment with Huanji San led to full recovery.
Another two-year-old child underwent fumigation treatment, developed phlegm, wheezing, and restlessness, and died before effective treatment could be administered.
Huanji Xiaodu San (also known as Bixie San), treats Yangmei Chuang regardless of whether it is recent or chronic, showing efficacy in both cases.
