Ding sores (acne-like lesions with a hard root) are also called "thief acne" (severe, rapidly progressing acne). There may be three to five or five to seven lesions, interspersed among other symptoms. Their color is purple and dark, accompanied by restless pain, causing other symptoms to arise in swarms. The lesions fail to suppurate (form pus), and the condition can even become fatal. This is due to severe heat-toxin accumulation and knotting. Treatment should employ Xianfang Huoming Yin (Immortal Life Elixir Decoction). If there is constipation of both stool and urine, increase the dosage of Dahuang (Rhubarb Rhizome) as appropriate; if there is generalized stiffness and spasms, add Mahuang (Ephedra Herb). Externally, it is essential to pierce the lesion with a thread needle to drain black blood, or suck out the toxic blood to release the toxin, allowing the remaining acne to suppurate. Otherwise, the toxin cannot be resolved, leading inevitably to death. If these methods do not work, urgently apply Su-jiu Moxibustion (Moxibustion with Garlic Partition). If the toxic qi is extremely severe or the patient feels no pain, do not use garlic partition; instead, apply moxibustion directly on the flesh. If after moxibustion the sore head becomes red, swollen, and hot, pierce it with a needle to drain toxic blood, followed by moxibustion, which is particularly effective. Although this method does not appear in medical texts, I have used it repeatedly with verified efficacy. People often rely on medicines like Zhibao Dan (Precious Treasure Pill), but one must not depend solely on them.
A child had two ding sores. All his acne were red, itchy, and failed to suppurate. My father pierced them with a needle and applied su-jiu moxibustion. After more than fifty moxa cones, suppuration began. After another ten-plus cones, the pain ceased. He administered Er Qian (two qian) of Xianfang Huoming Yin powder, mixed with hot blood for oral administration, resulting in the discharge of purple blood. After two more doses, the ding toxin completely receded, and all acne filled with pus. Finally, he was cured using Xijiao Xiaodu San (Rhino Horn Detoxification Powder).
Another child suffered from acne ding. After draining toxic blood and taking Xianfang Huoming Yin, the acne healed. However, the ding site remained intermittently itchy and painful. It was cured using Xianfang Huoming Yin and su-jiu moxibustion. Finally, Shenqi Sisheng San (Ginseng and Four Sages Powder) was used to promote scabbing.
A third child had several ding sores within his acne. Although toxic blood was drained, residual toxins remained unresolved. My father prescribed one dose of Xianfang Huoming Yin, administered slowly. The toxin cleared, pus formed, and he recovered.
Another child presented with acne ding, with erysipelas-like redness over the whole body and three purple lesions. His condition gradually subsided after using Xianfang Huoming Yin and su-jiu moxibustion. Taking two qian of Xianfang Huoming Yin powder helped the pus form gradually. He was finally cured using Sisheng San and Xijiao Xiaodu San.
A child on the seventh day of acne eruption experienced alternating chills and fever with thirst. Ding sores appeared along the Gallbladder meridian in both hypochondriac regions and the lateral aspect of the arms. Black blood was first drained with a needle. Then, one dose of Xiao Chaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) plus Sheng Dihuang (Rehmannia Root) was given, which instantly stopped the chills, fever, and thirst. One dose of Xianfang Huoming Yin subsequently led to recovery.
A child had dense acne, severe pain, and red coloration. The next day, the lesions turned black. He asked for water to drink, and his mental state cleared slightly. Three qian of Xianfang Huoming Yin powder were administered with warm wine. The pain eased slightly, but the acne remained finger-sized, red, swollen, and elevated. One pill of Duoming Dan (Life-Seizing Pill) reduced swelling and pain by six or seven-tenths. Another dose of Xianfang Huoming Yin powder with warm wine reduced it further by three or four-tenths. After subsequent doses, pus formed, and he was cured using Sisheng San.
