If the body is soft and the patient regains consciousness intermittently, it is Xian Bing (epilepsy/seizure disorder); if the body is rigid and the patient regains consciousness intermittently, it is Jing Bing (tetanus/spasm). This condition also belongs to the category of Jing Feng (wind convulsion). [Yin-Jing] involves cold hands and feet; Jing Bing involves whole-body rigidity. Although they are essentially the same disease, they should be distinguished by Yin-Rou (Yin-flaccidity) and Yang-Qiang (Yang-rigidity). Qiang (rigid) cases have sweating; Rou (flaccid) cases have no sweating. The symptoms manifest as limb rigidity and opisthotonos (backward arching of the back), which is more severe than Feng Xian (wind epilepsy) and is generally considered incurable.
