It is stated: If a patient feels hot like fever (fever), shivering like cold (chills), without any fixed time pattern, limbs and joints feeling loose as if dislocated, soreness and pain in hands and feet, dizziness and vertigo of the head and eyes, this is due to deficiency of Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) and Wei Qi (Defensive Qi), with external Wind Pathogen taking advantage. When Wind combats Yang, it causes fever; when it combats Yin, it causes chills. If not treated for a long time, it becomes Lao Qi (Consumption Qi). Jingjie San (Schizonepeta Powder) is the primary treatment.
Jingjie San (Schizonepeta Powder)
Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjie Sui), Ginseng Root (Renshen), Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu), Angelica Sinensis Radix (Danggui, cut fine and roasted), Astragalus Membranaceus Root (Huangqi), Paeonia Lactiflora Root (Shaoyao), Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi, bark removed, each 1 liang), Bupleurum Root (Chaihu, sprouts removed, 2 liang), Licorice Root (Gancao, honey-fried, 0.5 liang).
Grind the above into powder. Take 5 qian per dose, decoct with 2 zhan of water until 1 zhan remains, remove dregs, and take warm.
If suddenly the jaw becomes tight and rigid, limbs twitch and convulse, and eyes stare straight ahead, this is Wind lodging in the Blood meridians, termed Feng Fei (Wind Paralysis). If the pulse is tight and large, it is incurable. Duhuo Tang (Angelica Pubescens Decoction) is the primary treatment.
Duhuo Tang (Angelica Pubescens Decoction)
Angelica Pubescens Root (Duhuo, 0.5 liang, crushed), Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjie Sui, 1 liang).
Decoct Schizonepeta in 3 zhan of water until 1 zhan remains, then add Angelica Pubescens and decoct until half remains. Remove dregs and take warm. When using Angelica Pubescens, select those that are purple with a chrysanthemum-heart pattern on the cross-section. The very large and old Notopterygium Root (Qianghuo) is commonly used. White ones are actually old Peucedanum Root (Qianhu), which must strictly be avoided.
Another Prescription:
Decoct Schizonepeta into a thick juice in a basin, have the patient sit over it to fumigate, then wash the affected areas.
If chills and fever alternate like malaria without fixed timing, abdominal fullness and distension, dizziness upon rising, constipation, occasional abdominal pain, chest and diaphragm stuffiness, this is due to retained food failing to transform, knotting in the intestines, obstructing Qi flow, causing chaos of Yin and Yang. Bijian Wan (Emergency Aid Pill) is the primary treatment.
Bijian Wan (Emergency Aid Pill)
Rhubarb Root (Dahuang, wrapped in wet paper and baked), Croton Seed (Badou, skin, heart, and oil removed), Dried Ginger (Ganjiang, skin removed, equal parts).
Grind into fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of pea seeds. Take one pill per dose with rice drink. For frail persons, take a pill the size of a mung bean. Stop when bowel movement is smooth and rapid.

The disease is named Feng Shi (Wind-Dampness). Mahuang Jia Shu Tang (Ephedra plus Atractylodes Decoction) is the primary treatment. For afternoon fever, Yiyiren Tang (Coix Decoction) is the primary treatment. For pulling pain preventing flexion and extension, Gancao Fuzi Tang (Licorice and Aconite Decoction) is the primary treatment. For nasal obstruction and blocked breathing, Gouti San (Melon Seed Powder) is the primary treatment. For aversion to wind and heavy body, Fangji Tang (Stephania Decoction) is the primary treatment.
