Yang Refines Yin, Yin Dissolves: Rare in the World
Refining the Yang Soul and dissolving the Yin Substance. The method of refining Yang and dissolving Yin was transmitted by Tianzhen Huangren (Heavenly True Imperial Person) to Huangdi (Yellow Emperor) as the secret of "San Yi" (Three Ones); this is the Dao. If Shen (Spirit) and Qi (Vital Energy) combine, Yang naturally refines itself, and Yin naturally dissolves. These are all principles of nature, caused by Yin and Yang to be so. The *Huangting Jing* (Yellow Court Classic) states: "Xuan Yuan Shang Yi refines the Hun and Po souls"; its principle is extremely profound and mysterious. Few people know its profundity, hence it is said: "Rare in the world."
Spiritual Texts and Wondrous Secrets: Good to Follow as Basis
"Spiritual Texts" refer to books on golden slips. "Wondrous Secrets" refer to the method of "San Yi" (Three Ones). These all originate from hidden stores and fly into Xuan Du (Mysterious Capital). Unless one is a Zhiren (Perfected Person), this Dao is not transmitted. The principle of refining Yang and dissolving Yin transforms based on opportunities from emptiness and non-being; what realm can ordinary humans reach?
Yang Fluctuates Restlessly, Hard to Restrain
Those who wish to restrain and bind [Yang] should understand that the principle does not lie in partial selection, but the Dao can be complete in both aspects; it is not through isolated binding that wondrous functions are achieved. Xuangang stated: "If an ordinary person retains even a fraction of Yang, they will not die; if they retain even a fraction of Yin, they will not become immortal."
Recognize the Supreme Mechanism of Lingyuan
Lingyuan possesses a supreme mechanism, which is the key to controlling restlessness. Taibai Zhenren said: "When the Xuanji (Mysterious Mechanism) arrives, the body remains; when the Xuanji departs, the body perishes."
Palaces Layer upon Layer Called Yudu
Yudu refers to the Niwan Palace (Cinnabar Field of the Upper Dantian). The Upper Dantian has nine palaces, all interconnected. Hence it is said: "Palaces layer upon layer."
The Place Where Huan Dan is Achieved is the Yang Furnace
"Huan Dan" (Returning Elixir) refers to True Essence (Zhenjing). The Upper Dantian is the palace of pure Yang, the sole place storing the Returning Elixir. Everyone possesses it, hence it is called the "Place where the Yang Furnace is achieved."
Connecting Spirit Through the Spine as the Thoroughfare
This palace has two meridians descending from the夾脊 (Jiaji / Between the Shoulders) to the Qihai (Sea of Qi) in the Lower Dantian, to connect with True Essence, point out and harmonize Qi, and respond to leakage [of essence].
Responding Below to Guanyuan, No Worries
Guanyuan refers to the gate in the Lower Dantian where essence and Qi leak. If humans engage in yin-yang interaction, True Essence descends to this gate. Harmonizing Qi transforms into condensed essence, responding to spiritual function. This gate is the convergence of hundred vessels, connecting various zang-fu organs and tendons and vessels of the four limbs, like the pores of lotus roots where Qi transformation occurs, hence named Guanyuan. If the upper responds to the lower following the Dao, there will be no worries.
