Regulating Qi and Blood, preserving youth and beauty, treating all types of deficiency consumptive dry cough.
Shengdi Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, 16 liang, extract juice) Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 3 liang, extract pure powder) Baifushling (Poria, 5 liang, extract pure powder) Bai Mi (Honey, 6 liang)
Boil the Shengdi Huang juice together with Honey until bubbling, stir evenly, filter through silk cloth, mix in the fine powders of Renshen and Baifushling evenly, place in a porcelain bottle, seal tightly, put inside a clay pot, boil thoroughly using double-boiling method (water bath). Take each time by dissolving in plain boiled water.
Dry cough refers to having sound but no phlegm; this is Fire invading Metal (Lung), where Metal reaches its extreme and cries out. Therefore, Zhu Danxi uses Shengdi Huang as the Sovereign herb, so that when Water (Kidney) is abundant, Fire naturally subsides.
When the Lung is damaged, one must benefit its Qi; therefore, Renshen is used to stimulate the origin of growth and development. When there is deficiency, one tonifies the Mother organ; therefore, Baifushling is used to cultivate the root of all things (Spleen Earth). Bai Mi is the essence of hundred flowers, sweet in taste entering the Spleen meridian, moistening in nature pleasing the Lungs, and capable of soothing dryness-heat fire. These four substances are all warm, mild, harmonious, and rich products, truly worthy of treasuring. Guo Ji said: "It rescues severe chronic diseases, precious as jade (Qiongyao), hence the name Qiongyu."
Greatly tonifying Qi and Blood, most suitable for all types of deficiency and frailty.
Renshen (Powder) Ren Ru (Human Milk, powdered) Equal parts, make into honey pills; either dissolve or swallow directly. Method for preparing milk powder: Take milk from a healthy young woman, use a silver spoon or tin spoon, pour a little milk, float it on boiling water, then immediately float it on cold water; within one meal's time it dries instantly. Scrape off the powder for use, similar to making rice noodle sheets. Note: Renshen greatly tonifies Yuan Qi (Original Qi); Human Milk is formed from blood, greatly tonifying Yin deficiency. Taking them together benefits both Qi and Blood, moistens dryness and descends fire, using human essence to nourish the human body. Drinking alone may cause dampness to trap the Spleen and lead to loose stools; only when made into powder and combined with Renshen is it beneficial without harm. It is best to use milk from one woman only; mixed milk leads to mixed Qi. It should be prepared and used fresh; if kept too long, it becomes oily and rancid, losing efficacy.
Particularly effective for various deficiencies and hundred damages. The song says: "If the tailgate cannot hold back the ocean from drying up, even the Nine-Turn Elixir is slow to speak; only the pearl on the neck of the Banlong can supplement the acupoints below Yutang and Guanxia."
Lu Rong (Deer Antler Velvet, wine-fried) Lu Jiao Jiao (Deer Horn Glue, fried into beads) Lu Jiao Shuang (Deer Horn Frost) Yangqi Shi (Styritum, quenched in red wine) Suanzaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen, fried)
Rou Cong Rong (Cistanche Deserticola, soaked in wine removing scales) Baiziren (Biota Seed) Huangqi (Astragali Radix, wine-fried, 2 liang each) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, wine-fried) Hei Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, processed)
Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root, pounded into paste, 8 qian each) Chensha (Cinnabar, 5 qian) Grind into fine powder, bind with wine paste into pills, size of paulownia seeds, take on an empty stomach with wine. When Kidney Qi is deficient, the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) is injured and essence is exhausted. Deer nature is hot and obtains the most complete Heaven and Earth Yang Qi. Because the deer nose faces the tail, it can connect with the Du Mai, thus ensuring sufficient essence.
Using Lu Rong, Lu Jiao Jiao, and Lu Jiao Shuang together implies that Yang Qi resides in the head, taking the whole aspect. Yangqi Shi, Rou Cong Rong, and Fuzi are used for their direct entry into the Shaoyin (Kidney/Heart) channel. Suanzaoren, Baiziren, and Chensha are all calming Spirit (Shen) agents. The *Xian Jing* (Immortal Classic) states: "When Shen is sufficient, Qi is prosperous; when Qi is prosperous, Essence is generated." Huangqi and Danggui harmonize Qi and Blood above and below; wine-paste pills penetrate the tunnels of interior and exterior, assisting the medicinal power, allowing all ingredients to reach every minute detail. Named "Banlong" because Dragon corresponds to the East, belongs to Wood, and is Yang, also taking its vigorous and矫健 (strong/agile) meaning. This formula is prescribed to strengthen Yang, hence the name. If there is true Yin deficiency at the lower level with hyperactive Yang floating upward, it should not be lightly administered, as it would instead assist the Fire.
