The collaterals of the human body number fifteen; I shall now count them one by one from the beginning. The Luo-connecting point of the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian is Lieque (LU7); that of the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian is Tongli (HT5); that of the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian is Neiguan (PC6); that of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian is Zhizheng (SI7); that of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian is Pianli (LI6); that of the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian is Waiguan (TE5); that of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian is Feiyang (BL58); that of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian is Fenglong (ST40); that of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian is Guangming (GB37); that of the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian is Gongson (SP4); that of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian is Dazhong (KI11); that of the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian is Ligou (LR5). The collateral of the Yangwei Vessel is Changqiang (GV1); the collateral of the Yinren Vessel (Ren Vessel) is Pingyi (Jiuwei, CV15); the major collateral of the Spleen is Dabao (SP21). You must memorize these fifteen Luo-connecting points.

Zusanli (ST36) and Neiting (ST44) are the secret acupoints for abdominal diseases; Quchi (LI11) and Hegu (LI4) can thoroughly treat headaches; Weizhong (BL40) and Kunlun (BL60) are connected to lower back pain; Houxi (SI3) and Lieque (LU7) treat neck pain. Huantiao (GB30) and Yanglingquan (GB34) benefit conditions in the anterior knee, axilla, and hypochondrium; retention time should be long for tonification, while sedation should be swift. Among the three hundred and sixty acupoints, eleven are worth a thousand gold pieces.

For diseases caused by myriad evils leading to mania and epilepsy, there are thirteen acupoints to recognize. When needling, first needle Guigong (Renzhong, GV26), then Guixin (Li-13), and it will invariably work; seek them one by one from the beginning. For males, start on the left side; for females, start on the right side. The first needle is at Renzhong, named Guigong; pause briefly, insert on the left and withdraw on the right. The second needle is under the nail of the thumb, named Guixin, inserted three fen deep. The third needle is under the nail of the great toe, named Guilèi, inserted two fen deep. The fourth needle is at Tailing (PC7) behind the palm, five cun and eight fen from the wrist crease, named Guixin. The fifth needle is Shenmai (BL62), named Guilu; apply moxibustion with fire needles three times. The sixth needle seeks Dayzhu (BL11), one cun above the hairline, named Guizhen. The seventh needle is five fen below the earlobe, named Guizhuang. The eighth needle is Chengjiang (CV24), named Guishi; insert from left and withdraw from right, as you must remember. The ninth needle is Jianshi (PC5), located on the path of Guilu. The tenth needle is Shangxing (GV23), named Guitang. The eleventh needle is at the seam below the yin (for males, three moxa cones; for females, at the vulva), named Guicang. The twelfth needle is Quchi (LI11), named Guiku; apply fire moxibustion seven times. The thirteenth needle is at the center of the tongue, named Guifeng; needle both sides of the hands and feet relatively. If encountering an isolated point, needle only one side. This is the true secret of the ancient masters, driving away rampant evil spirits without a trace.

The Tianxing Secret Method is known by few; this method specifically applies to anterior and posterior regions. If there is retained food in the stomach, first seek Zusanli (ST36), then Xuanji (CV15). For spleen diseases involving blood and qi, first take Hegu (LI4), then needle Sanyinjiao (SP6), do not delay. If struck by ghostly pathogens, first take Jianshi (PC5). For arm spasms and bi-syndrome, take Jianyu (LI15). If legs turn cramped and eyes blur, first needle Chengshan (BL57), then the inner ankle area. For podagra and shoulder soreness, first take Jianjing (GB21), then seek Zusanli (ST36) and Yanglingquan (GB34). If small intestine pain connects to the umbilicus, first take Yinlingquan (SP9), then Yongquan (KI1). For tinnitus and lower back pain, first take Wuhui (GV19), then needle Ermen (TE21). For Qi pain in the small intestine treated by Zusanli and Neiting, first take Changqiang (GV1), then Dadun (LR1), do not rush. For weak and difficult-to-move feet, first take Jiegu (Gongsun, SP4 - *Note: Text says Jiegu, likely referring to Xianguan GB39 or similar, but literal translation used*), then seek Tiaokou (ST38) and Chongyang (ST42). For toothache, headache, and throat obstruction, first needle Erjian (LI2), then Zusanli (ST36). For chest and diaphragm fullness, first take Yinjiao (CV13). Needle into Chengshan (BL57) for dietary preferences. For abdominal edema and bloating, first needle Shuifen (CV9) to drain water, and Jianli (CV11) to regulate. For cold damage passing through stages without sweating, look to Qimen (LR14) and Tongli (HT5) sequentially. For cold malaria, facial swelling, and intestinal rumbling, first take Hegu (LI4), then Neiting (ST44). Where to needle cold wind-damp bi-syndrome? First take Huantiao (GB30), then Yanglingquan (GB34). For finger pain and spasms, Shaoshang (LU11) is good. Apply according to the method, and it will be invariably effective.
