Banana shadows cover the window, lotus fragrance fills the courtyard. Mr. Lü Boren knocks on the door and enters, carrying a scroll of books in his sleeve, saying: "This is Mr. Shi Xiaolian Fainan's *Yi Lu* (Medical Hut)." The book explores the profound medical theories of Bian Que and Qin Yueren (ancient divine physicians), inherits the medical transmission from high ancestors and great-grandfathers, possesses the insight to see through internal and external organs (Dong Yuan), laughs at the foolishness of those who stick rigidly to old methods without adapting to changes (Ke Zhou Qiu Jian). Thus, he gathers his accumulated knowledge and carves it into this book. Its arguments are clear and thorough, its intention loyal and profound; it is indeed a precious ferryboat in the medical forest and a compassionate boat for benefiting the world. I have carefully reviewed and collated it to share with my peers.

Daily encountering Zhu Yusheng, a Xiucai (scholar), [who also encouraged publication]. Therefore, I urged him to print it for public dissemination and appended a few words at the end of the chapter!
In the first month of the year Xinyou (1861) of the Xianfeng era, your humble fellow villager and younger brother Zhou Bingkui, courtesy name Yizhen, bows and writes this postscript.
