(Gegen Tang [Pueraria Decoction], Sanfang Shengma Tang [Three-Ingredient Cimicifuga Decoction], Da Xiao Qinglong Tang [Major and Minor Blue Dragon Decoctions] are in the later *Baoming Ji* [Collection for Preserving Life]; the three Chengqi Tang [Purgative Decoctions] are also there.)
Yilao Mendong Yinzi (Old Master's Ophiopogon Drink): Treats elderly, weak, and deficient individuals.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Gouqi (Lycium Fruit), Baifuling (Poria with Hostwood), Gancao (Licorice Root) (each 2 qian), Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit), Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber) (decored from heart, each 0.5 liang). The above herbs are coarsely crushed, decocted with fresh ginger.
Maidong Yin (Ophiopogon Decoction): Used for cases of labor relapse (recurrence of illness due to overexertion) where the patient is critically ill and breath is nearly exhausted; this formula is effective.
Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber) (1 liang), Gancao (Licorice Root) (2 qian, tip part), Jingmi (Oryza Sativa Grain) (0.5 he). First, remove the heart of Maidong and grind into fine powder. Add two zhan of water, decoct Jingmi until cooked, remove the rice grains. Retain approximately half a small zhan of liquid, add five qian of the herbal powder, two dates (pitted), and fifteen slices of fresh Zhuxie (Bambusa Leaves). Simmer together until reduced to one large zhan. Strain and take warm. For those unable to swallow, drip the liquid into the mouth using cotton wool. Later practitioners used this dripping method for infants who could not be fed orally. This formula does not use Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) because there is no significant heat in the Sanjiao (Triple Burner), and additionally, the patient is in a state of impending Yang Qi exhaustion. Therefore, Shigao is omitted. Adding Renshen (Ginseng Radix) would be excellent.
Haizang Wuyin Tang (Sea Storehouse Five Drinks Decoction): One is Liuyin (Stagnant Fluids) located below the heart; Two is Yin in the hypochondrium; Three is Tanyin (Phlegm-Fluids) overflowing in the stomach; Four is Yin on the diaphragm; Five is Liuyin (Flowing Fluids) in the intestines. All these five conditions arise from contracting cold pathogen after drinking alcohol or consuming excessive cold substances.
Xuanfuhua (Inula Flower), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel), Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange), Baizhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), Fuling (Poria), Nongpo (Magnolia Bark), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber), Zexie (Alisma Rhizome), Zhuling (Polyporus), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig/Cortex), Shaoyao (Peony Root), Gancao (Licorice Root). The above herbs are equal parts, chopped. Each liang of mixture is divided into four doses. Decoct with two zhan of water and ten slices of fresh ginger until reduced to 70%. Take the clear liquid warm at any time. Avoid meat, raw/cold foods, and rich flavors. If caused by wine-induced fluids, add Gegenhua (Pueraria Flower) and Suosharen (Amomum Fruit).
Haizang Yihan Wan (Sea Storehouse Cold-Resolving Pill): This pill... Yang Qi arises from below. It treats Yin syndrome patients who, after taking Sini Tang-type formulas, experience dryness and thirst in the chest, or constipation for several days with scanty, dark urine. Taking this pill will relieve upper restlessness and normalize bowel and bladder movements.
Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), Fuling (Poria) (each 0.5 liang), Liangjiang (Galangal Rhizome), Wutou (Aconite Lateral Root) (processed, each 7 qian), Fuzi (Aconite Processed Root) (processed), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) (processed), Shaoyao (Peony Root), Huixiang (Fennel Fruit) (stir-fried, each 1 liang). Grind the above herbs into fine powder and make pills with paste, sized like paulownia seeds. Take 70-80 pills on an empty stomach or before meals with warm wine; 80-90 pills are also acceptable. Using wine or vinegar as paste is also acceptable.
Furen Xuefeng Zheng (Women's Blood Wind Syndrome): Caused by massive blood loss, metrorrhagia/metrostaxis, or bleeding from anterior and posterior orifices, leading to dryness. The heat persists, manifesting as xunyicuokong (unconscious grasping at bedclothes or air), touching the bed, closed eyes without consciousness, throwing hands upward with rolling eyes, restless shaking, delirious speech, and loss of spirit. The pulse is wiry, floating, and deficient. This indicates extreme internal dryness and heat. Breathing is coarse, nose is dry and unmoistened, and both upper and lower body are dry. This is difficult to treat. Use Shengdi Huang Huanglian Tang (Rehmannia and Coptis Decoction) as the primary treatment.
Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome), Shengdi Huang (Rehmannia Root) (Radix Rehmanniae Recens), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) (each 7 qian), Chishaoyao (Red Peony Root), Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) (each 3 qian), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root) (3 liang). Coarsely crush the above herbs. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct with two zhan of water until reduced to 70%. Take the clear liquid slowly at any time. If the pulse is excess, add Dahuang (Rhubarb Root) to purge. Dachengqi Tang (Major Order the Qi Decoction) is a Qi-moving formula, used when pathogens move from exterior to interior. Shengdi Huang Huanglian Tang is a Blood-nourishing formula, used when pathogens move from interior to exterior. In cases of combined Qi and Blood disease presenting with xunyicuokong, the presentation is similar. If the pathology moves from Qi to Blood, and then Blood affects Qi, use Dachengqi Tang to purge. If the pathology moves from Blood to Qi, and then Qi affects Blood, use Shengdi Huang Huanglian Tang. (Both conditions involve constipation.)
Zengsun Lizhong Wan (Modified Regulate the Middle Pill): Wang Chaofeng stated that if Da Xiao Xiantang Tang/Wan (Major/Minor Chest-Harmonizing Decoction/Pills) are ineffective, this formula should be used.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), Gualou (Trichosanthes Fruit), Muli (Oyster Shell) (each 2 liang), Gancao (Licorice Root) (stir-fried, 3 liang), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) (processed, 1.5 liang), Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange) (processed, 24 pieces), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) (remove woody core, 1 liang). Grind into fine powder and make pills with refined honey, size of a bullet. Decoct one tea-cup amount of water, take the pill, continue administration without pause. After no more than five or six doses, the chest will feel suddenly clear. The medication acts swiftly; such efficacy has rarely been seen. If thirsty, add Gualougen (Trichosanthes Root); if sweating, add Muli (Oyster Shell).
