Ministerial fire (Xianghuo) originates from the Gate of Life (Mingmen), while Sovereign fire (Junhuo) resides in the Heart. It is difficult for these two fires to remain balanced with Kidney water (only the color green belongs to Water, as stated in the *Huangdi Neijing*: "One Water cannot overcome Two Fires"). The ascending Qi of the Five Viscera all transforms into Fire (excess Qi becomes Fire); one must understand that reckless movement refines True Yin (the *Neijing* also states: "One Water cannot overcome Five Fires"). When Heart Fire is hyperactive causing Yang excess and disease, individuals who are robust and have substantial Zheng Qi may take salty-cold remedies. For mania and constipation, Chengqi Tang (Cassia Twig Decoction) is used; if stool is normal, Jiedu Ying (Toxin-Resolving Response) is indicated (treating heat-fire causing delirious speech, groaning, insomnia, irritability, rapid pulse, and dry retching). Excess Fire can be purged from the Upper Jiao, but treatment must be adjusted according to the affected meridians. Fever resulting from diet and overwork belongs to internal injury due to insufficient Yuan Qi. Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Spleen-Raising and Qi-Supplementing Decoction), with its sweet and warm nature, is effective for cases where Yang-deficient Fire prevails. When Ministerial Fire is blazing and attacking Yin, it manifests as coolness in the morning and fever in the evening, constituting Blood deficiency. Fire within the Yin should be descended using sweet-cold herbs; Zhibai Siwu Tang (Anemarrhena, Phellodendron, and Four Substances Decoction) is highly efficacious. Injury to Kidney Water leads to Yin deficiency, presenting with facial redness, ear heat, and floating fire. A flooding, rapid, rootless pulse at the left Chi position indicates deficient fire, treated effectively with Guiban Liushen Wan (Tortoise Shell and Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, Phellodendri Cortex, etc.) (The above methods treat deficient fire). If Stomach Qi is weak and excessive consumption of cold/raw foods suppresses Yang Qi preventing its extension, this is a Fire-Stagnation syndrome, best treated with dispersing and ascending methods; Shengyang Sanhuo Tang (Yang-Raising and Fire-Dispersing Decoction) is effective. Decline of Mingmen Fire leading to Yang collapse presents with facial flushing, irritability, and abundant deficient fire. Cold feet, deep pulse, and extreme Yin dryness indicate the use of Huiyang Jiujii Tang (Decoction to Restore Yang and Rescue from Crisis), a sage formula in medicine, composed of Liujun Zi Tang (Six-Gentlemen Decoction) plus Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig), Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), with added Zhudans (Pig Gallbladder Juice) and Shexiang (Musk). Deficient Yin with fever and vigorous fire, characterized by a rapid but forceless pulse, involves the Heart and Kidney. Internal injury fever due to Yang deficiency shows a large but forceless pulse, localizing to the Spleen and Lung. Fire arising from Qi moving from the left side is Liver Fire; Yin Fire is often drawn from below the navel. Heat rising from the soles invading the abdomen indicates extreme deficiency, making treatment difficult. To treat Fire, one initially knows to use cooling methods, then cold methods for expected efficacy. If cold methods fail, switch to hot methods; if that fails, confusion ensues. Merely knowing to treat heat with cold and cold with heat means the profound principles have not been thoroughly examined. The reason heat-fire cannot be subsided is ultimately because True Water has not grown. The exquisite method is to primarily strengthen Water; strengthening Water naturally controls the Solar Flare (hyperactive Yang). If cold treatment results in heat, treat from the Yin perspective; Yin refers to Kidney Water, as clarified in the classics. Once Kidney Water is sufficient, Heart Fire descends; without Water to couple with it, who can withstand the Fire? (Huiyang Jiujii Tang; Liujun Zi Tang plus Fuzi, Guizhi, Ganjiang, Wuweizi, Shexiang, Zhudans)
