Between the throat and the tongue, a sudden and severe swelling occurs, expanding rapidly. This condition is named *Zouma Houfeng* (Running Horse Throat Wind), also known as *Feiyang*. If not treated urgently, it can be fatal. The treatment involves pricking with a small knife to release blood, washing with light salt water, insufflating with *Bingpian San* (Borneol Powder), and orally administering *Jiawei Ganjie Tang* (Modified Licorice and Platycodon Decoction) with the addition of 1–2 liang of *Jinyinhua* (Honeysuckle Flower). If the jaw is stiff and tight, insufflate the nasal cavity with *Chubi San* (Nasal Insufflation Powder), followed by administering *Jiedu Xionghuang Wan* (Detoxifying Realgar Pill) ground in vinegar and forced down the throat. *Taiyi Zijin Dan* (Great Unity Purple Gold Pill) is also effective; *Zijin Dan*...
The root of the tongue becomes stiff while both sides ulcerate. Urgently administer *Jiawei Ganjie Tang* and insufflate with *Bingpian San*; if delayed, rescue is impossible. If papilla-like growths appear in the throat, unilateral growth is called *Dan Ru'e* (Single Tonsillar Swelling); bilateral growth is called *Shuang Ru'e* (Double Tonsillar Swelling). It is appropriate to mix *Jicai Zhi* (Mustard Green Juice) with *Yuanming Fen* (Refined Mirabilite) and administer to expel phlegm and saliva, then insufflate with *Bingpian San*. Subsequently, taking *Ganjie Tang* should lead to resolution. If it does not resolve, prick the papilla with a small knife to release blood, and recovery will be immediate. When needling *Ru'e*, one should needle the head and tail, but never the middle. Fresh red blood indicates an easy cure, whereas dark, scanty blood indicates difficulty in recovery. Whenever using a knife or needle, if bleeding does not stop, apply powdered *Guang Sanqi* (Notoginseng Root) chewed and applied to the wound to stop bleeding immediately. When using a knife or needle, do not accidentally injure the *Diding* (Uvula); injury here is incurable...
Resembling a boot nail, merely slightly longer. First, prick with a small knife, then insufflate with *Bingpian San*, and drink a decoction of *Ganjie Tang* with added chrysanthemum. Chrysanthemum, including roots and leaves, is a supreme herb for eliminating *Ding* (carbuncles/furuncles). Use 4 liang per dose, decoct in water and take at once; all carbuncles and swellings will dissipate. The fresh juice is particularly effective...
These conditions are caused by blazing Heart Fire (*Xin Huo Chi Sheng*). Wash away the white coating on the tongue with water. If black areas exist, prick them with a small knife to remove stasis, insufflate with *Bingpian San*, and take *Ganjie Tang* with added *Huanglian* (Coptis Rhizome). In the case of *Lianhua She* (Lotus Tongue), where several peaks rise near the teeth, the center must not be needled; instead, needle the sides. Needling the center risks injuring the root beneath the tongue; such injury prevents successful treatment. Whenever using a knife or needle in the oral cavity, there are two areas that must absolutely not be injured: one is the *Diding* (Uvula), and the second is the root beneath the tongue. Remember this well; it is extremely important. Additionally, for *She Nu* (Tongue Hemorrhage) where bleeding does not cease, double the dosage of *Shengdi Huang* (Rehmannia Root) and *Dan Pi* (Moutan Cortex) in *Ganjie Tang* as the primary treatment. *Bingpian San* can also be insufflated.
