Dizziness (Xuan Yun) refers to the sensation of lightheadedness and vertigo where one feels as if spinning. If caused by Liver Wind (Liver Wind) combined with Phlegm-Fluids (Tan Yin), it is generally treated with Er Chen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) modified. If caused by Deficiency (Xu), it is treated with Yi Wei Lu Rong Jiu (Single Antler Deer Wine). If caused by Hyperactive Fire (Huo Kang), it is treated with Yi Wei Da Huang San (Single Rhubarb Powder).

If due to Liver Wind, add Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Yu Zhu (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma), Tian Ma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Gou Teng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis). If due to Phlegm-Fluids, double the dosage of Ban Xia and double Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma). For excessive Fire, add Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) and Yuan Shen (Ophiopogonis Radix).
Yi Wei Lu Rong Jiu (Single Antler Deer Wine)

Phlegm-Fluids (Tan Yin) are diseases of the Lung and Kidney. Their root lies in Dampness of the Spleen Earth (Tu Shi). The Lung Qi descends to transform into fluids, and Kidney Water ascends to transform into Qi. Once Yang Qi declines and Spleen Earth becomes damp, Lung Qi becomes obstructed and cannot transform fluids; Kidney Water stagnates and cannot transform Qi. When Qi fails to transform fluids, it stagnates and steams upward to form Phlegm (Tan); when Water fails to transform Qi, it accumulates downward to form Fluids (Yin). When Phlegm-Fluids linger and block the clear orifices and airways, this leads to coughing and wheezing, shortness of breath, chest fullness, poor sleep and appetite, and irregular emotions (anger and joy), giving rise to various pathological changes. If Phlegm-Fluids linger causing abdominal distension, treat with Jiang Ling Ban Xia Tang (Ginger, Poria, and Pinellia Decoction) or Xiao Ban Xia Jia Fu Ling Tang (Minor Pinellia Decoction plus Poria). If Phlegm-Fluids stagnate causing wheezing with sound, treat with Xiao Qing Long Tang (Minor Green Dragon Decoction) or Ma Huang She Ye Tang (Ephedra and Belamcanda Decoction). If Fluids accumulate above, Qi fails to transform fluids, leading to Fluids lingering below and transforming into Phlegm, treat with Gui Ling Gan Zhu Tang (Cinnamon Twig, Poria, Licorice, and Atractylodes Macrocephala Decoction). If Fluids accumulate below, Water fails to transform Qi, leading to Fluids flooding the chest and transforming into Phlegm, treat with Zhen Wu Tang (True Warrior Decoction). If Water-Fluids stagnate in the Zang-Fu organs, located above in the chest and diaphragm, suitable for draining the Qi level, treat with Shi Zao Tang (Ten Jujube Decoction). Located below in the umbilical and abdominal region, suitable for draining via the water passages, treat with Zhu Ling Tang (Polyporus Decoction). Flowing into the meridians, suitable for draining through the sweat pores, treat with Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria). For all cases of Phlegm-Fluids that can be treated by emesis, treat with Gua Di San (Melon Stalk Powder).

If there is Heat above, add Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) and Bei Mu (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus). If there is Cold below, assist with Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) and Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata).
