[Yun] When pathogenic factors of Cold Damage (Shanghan) invade the Three Yin meridians, internal Qi fails to circulate and communicate freely, resulting in abdominal pain. The meridians of the hands and feet all converge at the abdomen. If the pulse is wiry (Xian) accompanied by abdominal pain, the pathology lies in the Foot Jueyin Liver meridian and the Hand Taiyin Lung meridian; one should puncture Taichong (LR3), Taiyuan (LU9), and Daling (PC7). If the pulse is deep (Chen) accompanied by abdominal pain, the pathology lies in the Foot Taiyin Spleen meridian, Shaoyin Kidney meridian, and Hand Jueyin Pericardium meridian; one should puncture Taixi (KI3) and Daling (PC7). If the pulse is deep and fine (Xi) with pain, the pathology lies in the Foot Taiyin Spleen meridian and the Hand Shaoyin Heart meridian; one should puncture Taibai (SP3), Shenmen (HT7), and Sanyinjiao (SP6). This constitutes the method of acupuncture for treating abdominal pain.
[Danxi] Dry Huoluan (Gastrointestinal Turmoil) arises from internal injury (often dietary) compounded by external constraint by pathogenic factors. Some practitioners use emetic drugs, which incorporate the principle of dispersing pathogens; others use warm-natured drugs to resolve the constraint. In such cases, cold-natured drugs must not be used. It is appropriate to use Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) combined with dispersing herbs, such as Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), and Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi).
[Wuqiu] Salt Water Decoction treats Dry Huoluan, Gu poison (parasitic or toxic accumulation), retained food stagnation, accumulated cold, mental restlessness and abdominal fullness, and "Ghost Qi" (sudden fright or psychosomatic disorders).
Take three sheng of boiled salt water, drink one sheng while hot, and stimulate the throat to induce vomiting of retained food until empty. If not fully expelled, repeat the drinking and inducing process. After vomiting, drink again. Repeat this cycle three times before stopping. This method surpasses other treatments. However, common people regard it as a rustic and crude method, despise it, and refuse to use it, leading to death. Whenever this disease occurs, this method should be applied first. After vomiting, carefully examine the symptoms and pulse, then regulate gently with modified Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) or Zhizhong Tang.
[Zhicai] Ginger-Salt Decoction treats conditions where there is an urge to vomit but inability to do so, and an urge to defecate but inability to do so.
Salt (1 liang), Fresh Ginger (0.5 liang, sliced).
Stir-fry together until the color changes, decoct with one bowl of water, and take warm. For severe cases, add one cup of children's urine (Tongbian).
[Shiyi] Shengling Dan treats Dry Huoluan with severe abdominal pain.
Take Duanshi (calcined stone/mineral residue aged for a thousand years), soak in boiling water/decoction, and administer orally.
[Cheng Wujì] Diseases are categorized into Dry Huoluan and Wet Huoluan. Mortality is higher in Dry Huoluan and lower in Wet Huoluan. In Wet Huoluan, vomiting and diarrhea allow the injured matter to be expelled; even if severe, once the stomach contents are exhausted, the condition stops, hence fewer deaths. In Dry Huoluan, mortality is high because the upper orifice cannot vomit and the lower orifice cannot defecate. The injured matter cannot be expelled, causing obstruction of healthy Qi, separation of Yin and Yang, mental restlessness, oppression, agitation, wheezing, and abdominal distension, leading to death.
[Wuqiu] Patients with Dry Ou Huoluan (Dry Vomiting Huoluan) suddenly experience abdominal distension, fullness, and colicky pain. They suffer from a sense of grievance akin to Gu poison, have an urge to vomit but cannot, and an urge to defecate but cannot. The condition resembles possession by spirits, leading to sudden syncope and suffocation within moments.
