[Luo Tianyi] Qianhong San (Lead Red Powder): Treats wind-heat pathogenic factors attacking the Yangming meridians upwards, resulting in purple-red discoloration of the face and nose, accompanied by pruritus and urticaria-like eruptions (small bumps on the skin), commonly known as "Lung Wind." This is because the Lung governs the skin and hair, so Lung pathology manifests on the skin.
Ingredients: Sulfur (Huanghuang), Alum Ash (Baijian Hui) (each 5 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, add a small amount of Minium (Huandan), adjusting the color to match the patient's complexion. Apply 5 fen of the powder each time, moistened with saliva. Reapply after washing and before bedtime. Concurrently, decoct Shengma Tang (Cimicifugae Decoction) to administer Xieqing Wan (Drain Green Pills) orally to eliminate the root cause. (Shengma Tang formula is found in the Pediatric Smallpox section; Xieqing Wan formula is found in the Treatment of Deficiency and Excess section.)
[Bencao] Treats nasal redness caused by Lung Wind. Use old hawthorn berries ground into powder, melted beeswax mixed in equal proportions to form pills the size of a bullet. Chew one pill on an empty stomach, taken down with tea or wine. Efficacy is expected within half a month. Avoid alcohol, roasted, and fried foods.
[Jianyao Jizhong Fang] Treats red nose.
Ingredients: Loquat Leaf (Pipaye) (1 liang, remove hairs, shade-dried, fresh leaves are preferred), Gardenia Fruit (Zhizi) (0.5 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into powder. Take 2-3 qian per dose, mixed with warm wine. Taking it in the morning clears lesions on the left side; taking it before bed clears lesions on the right side. The efficacy is miraculous.
[Yanyi] Treats nasal redness caused by "Wine Wind" (Rosacea). Lightly stir-fry citrus seeds until fragrant, grind into powder. Take 2 qian-bi (measure for spoonful) each time, crush one walnut kernel, mix together, and take with warm wine. Stop when symptoms improve.
(The Tujing Bencao states: Walnut is hot in nature.)
Hai Yun: Treats Rosacea. Cornus Officinalis Fruit (Shanzhuyu) warms the waist and knees, nourishes Kidney Water, expels all wind pathogens, drives out all qi stagnation, and breaks up mass accumulations (Zha).
Another prescription for Rosacea: Borneol (Pian Nao) (a little), Sulfur (Huanghuang) (pure and clear, 5 fen), Loquat Leaf (Pipaye) (1 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Take a one-chi segment of pig large intestine head, and another one-chi segment from the second part. Scrape off the fat from the intestine and render it into oil. Mix this oil with the aforementioned powdered medicines, insert into a raw intestine, tie both ends securely, and hang in a ventilated place for seven days. When using, prick a hole in the intestine with a small needle, squeeze out a small amount of ointment, and apply manually to the affected area. Complete recovery within ten days.
[Wang Haogu] Fenhuang Gao (Powder Yellow Ointment): Treats red nodules caused by Lung Heat, commonly known as Rosacea.
Ingredients: Sulfur (Huanghuang) (1 fen, powdered), Radish (Luobo) (cut off the top, hollowed out to make a cavity, place sulfur inside, cover with a bamboo pin, roast in chaff fire overnight, then finely grind), Calomel (Qingfen), Aconite Tip (Wutou Jian) (each a little, powdered).
Preparation and Administration: Grind uniformly, mix with flour oil, apply at bedtime, wash off in the morning and evening. Mixing with butter/oil is even better.
Another method for Rosacea: Use Frankincense (Ruxiang), Sulfur (Huanghuang), Asarum (Xixin), and Calomel (Qingfen) in equal proportions, grind into powder, mix with water, and apply externally.
Binglang San (Betel Nut Powder): Treats redness of the nasal tip.
Ingredients: Betel Nut (Binglang), Sulfur (Huanghuang) (equal parts), Borneol (Pian Nao) (a little).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into fine powder, wrap in coarse silk gauze, and frequently rub onto the nose. The effect is achieved when the nose smells the odor. Alternatively, add Castor Seed Kernel (Bimazi Rou) powder, mix with butter/oil, apply a small amount to the nose before sleep so the scent is inhaled throughout the night, which is effective.
[Zhu Danxi] Treats Rosacea: Mix Toona Sinensis Oil (Tongyou) with Coptis Chinensis Rhizome (Huanglian) powder and burned ash of Uncaria Rhynchophylla (Tiandiao Teng), then apply externally.
[Jiayi Jing] For diseases arising from carbuncles in the nasal passage, Naokong (GB17) is the primary acupoint.
[Wang Haogu] A slightly white nasal tip indicates blood loss. Redness indicates blood heat. This condition is common among drinkers.
