The Blood Sea of humans is named Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel). It is located on both sides of the Blood Chamber (Xueshi) and communicates with it. Upward, it belongs to the Stomach Yangming Meridian; downward, it connects to the Kidney Shaoyin Meridian. The Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) serves as its supporter, the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) as its controller, and the Dai Mai (Belt Vessel) as its binder. The Yang Wei Mai (Yang Linking Vessel), Yin Wei Mai (Yin Linking Vessel), Yang Qiao Mai (Yang Heel Vessel), and Yin Qiao Mai (Yin Heel Vessel) serve as its protectors, collectively forming the Eight Extraordinary Vessels. These eight vessels and the Blood Chamber exist in both men and women. In men, the Chong Mai and Blood Chamber are the sites for transforming essence; in women, they are actually the sites for conceiving offspring. This refers to what the *Neijing* (Inner Canon) states in the chapter on Ancient Heaven and Humanity: "When the Tai Chong Mai is abundant, menstruation occurs at regular intervals, thus enabling conception." Therefore, female infertility is often attributed to the Chong Mai. If there is stagnation, regulate it; if there is deficiency, tonify it; if attacked by wind, dispel it; if dampness prevails, leach it out; if Qi transformation is insecure, secure it; if Yin and Yang are imbalanced, harmonize them. If the Chong Mai has no disease, there is none who cannot conceive. Since my clinical experiments, most cases of individuals who otherwise have no other diseases but remain infertile are largely due to deficiency and decline of Ministerial Fire (Xiang Huo), resulting in a lack of warmth in the Chong Mai. Thus, I formulated the Wenchong Tang (Warming Chong Decoction). For those who usually fear sitting in cool places or eating cool foods, whose menstrual cycles are generally harmonious but who find conception difficult, administer this decoction. After taking ten or dozens of doses, many are able to conceive.
A woman married at twenty and had not borne children by thirty. Her husband consulted me for treatment. Upon detailed inquiry into her constitution and temperament, she stated that she was most afraid of cold and coolness throughout her life, even refraining from eating fruits and melons during hot weather. Her menstrual cycle was generally harmonious, occasionally delayed by two or three days. Recognizing lower jiao (Lower Burner) deficiency-cold, I recalled that the *Shennong Bencao Jing* (Divine Farmer's Materia Medica) records Fluorite (Zishiyang) as having a sweet and warm nature, treating wind-cold in the uterus causing sterility for ten years without offspring. Therefore, I prescribed this decoction, heavily using six qian of Fluorite, leveraging its warm nature and heavy quality to guide the other herbs directly into the Chong Mai to warm it. After taking more than thirty doses, the aversion to cold was eliminated. Several months later, she became pregnant and gave birth to consecutive children. This further confirmed that the statement in the *Shennong Bencao Jing* regarding treating ten years of sterility is indeed accurate.
