Nine types of heart pain cause mental restlessness, chest binding (Jie Xiong) syndrome, regurgitation (Fan Wei) syndrome where food fails to stay in the stomach, intestinal murmurs caused by alcohol and food accumulation, pain in the diaphragm and umbilical region due to water retention, food stagnation, and qi disorders, abdominal pain, distension of the flanks, and fullness in the chest and diaphragm, malaria, intestinal wind (Chang Feng) syndrome with hematochezia, retained placenta, and blood stasis attacking upward to confuse the mind; urgently puncture the Gongsun (SP4) acupoint for immediate efficacy.
[Note] [1] The nine types of heart pain refer to: pain due to fluid retention (Yin), food stagnation (Shi), wind (Feng), cold (Leng), heat (Re), palpitations (Ji), parasites (Chong), infectious disease transmission (Zhu), and intermittent/coming-and-going deficiency (Qulai Bu).
[2] Chest binding (Jie Xiong) syndrome is characterized by chest fullness, hardness, and pain.
[3) Regurgitation (Fan Wei) syndrome is characterized by vomiting food eaten in the morning at night, with food failing to remain in the stomach.
[4) Alcohol injury, food injury, and stagnation causing rumbling in the intestines and stomach; water retention, food stagnation, and qi disorders causing pain in the diaphragm and umbilical-abdominal region, distension of the two flanks, and fullness/stuffiness in the chest and diaphragm; malaria, intestinal wind syndrome, hematochezia, as well as retained placenta in women, and blood stasis attacking upward to confuse the mind—all are suitable for needling this Gongsun (SP4) acupoint for immediate results (Figure 14).
Fullness in the middle jiao, chest and heart with痞 (Pi) and distension, intestinal murmurs, diarrhea, and rectal prolapse, difficulty swallowing food or injury from alcohol, hard masses protruding horizontally along the flanks, flank pain and heart pain in women, tenesmus and severe abdominal pain, unresolved exterior syndrome leading to chest binding, and malaria; the Neiguan (PC6) acupoint can alone handle these conditions.
[Note] [1] Middle jiao fullness with chest and heart痞 and distension refers to abdominal fullness and chest痞/distension that is not smooth or comfortable.
[2) Intestinal murmurs and diarrhea refer to sudden diarrhea and rectal prolapse.
[3) Difficulty swallowing food or injury from alcohol refers to vomiting and inability of food to descend, or injury caused by alcohol consumption.
[4) Hard masses protruding into the flanks, heart and flank pain in women, tenesmus and distending pain, hard pain from chest binding due to cold damage (Shang Han), malaria, interior excess syndromes, etc.—all are treated by needling the Neiguan (PC6) acupoint, resulting in complete recovery without exception (Figure 15).
Stroke causing difficulty in moving hands and feet, numbness, pain, fever, and tendon contracture; head wind (Tou Feng) causing swelling and pain extending to the head and neck; red, painful eyes accompanied by dizziness; toothache, deafness, and swollen throat symptoms; wandering wind (You Feng) causing itching and tendon entanglement; leg pain, flank distension, and costal limb pain; inserting the needle into Linqi (GB41) cures the disease.
[Note] [1) Stroke causing difficulty in moving hands and feet refers to paralysis or lack of voluntary movement in the limbs.
[2) If accompanied by pain, numbness, contracture, and fever, it indicates wind-heat syndrome.
[3) Head wind with vertigo, swelling, and pain extending to the head, neck, eyes, teeth, ears, and throat (all red, swollen, and painful); wandering wind with itching; tendon traction; pain in the waist, flanks, limbs, and ribs—all are suitable for needling this Linqi (GB41) acupoint, yielding miraculous effects immediately (see Figure 16).
