Classification: Bone Measurements from the Ling Shu (Spiritual Pivot)
Attribute: From the lower edge of the hair to the back, the bone length is two and a half cun. (Referring to the distance from the posterior hairline to the Dazhui [DU14] point at the third cervical vertebrae.)
Note: [1] Vertical measurement method for the head: The distance from the anterior hairline to the posterior hairline is measured as one chi two cun; if the hairline is unclear, measure vertically from the Yintang [EX-HN3] point (between the eyebrows) to the Dazhu [BL11] bone, measured as one chi eight cun; this is called vertical cun.
[2] Horizontal measurement method: The distance from the inner canthus to the outer canthus of the eye is one cun; the horizontal and vertical measurement methods for the head are based on this standard.

Attribute: The *Su Wen · Miao Ci Lun* (Treatise on Counter-Needling in the Basic Questions) states: If a person suffers from a fall, causing evil blood to remain internally, resulting in abdominal fullness and distension, and inability to pass urine or stool, one should first administer purgative medicines. This is because the upper injury affects the Jueyin meridians, and the lower injury affects the Shaoyin collaterals. One should needle below the medial malleolus of the foot, anterior to the RanGu [KI2] point, to bleed the vessels, and also needle the arterial pulse on the dorsum of the foot. If the condition does not improve, needle each of the three Mao points (hair tips on the big toe) once until bleeding occurs, which will immediately stop the symptoms. Needle the right side for left-sided ailments, and the left side for right-sided ailments.
Note:
Annotation: [1] This describes the treatment of diseases caused by evil blood using the counter-needling (Miao Ci) method.
[2] Due to a fall, evil blood remains internally, causing abdominal fullness and obstruction of urination and defecation; one should first use purgative medicines.
[3] As mentioned above, injury to the Jueyin Liver meridian and the Shaoyin Kidney collateral requires needling below the medial malleolus and anterior to the RanGu [KI2] point. Bleeding the vessels here is appropriate because it belongs to the collateral branches of the Shaoyin and connects with the Jueyin.
[4] Additionally, needle the arterial pulse on the dorsum of the foot, which is the ChongYang [ST42] point, the Yuan-Source point of the Stomach meridian.
[5] If the disease persists, further needle the DaDun [LR1] point located at the lateral aspect of the nail bed of the big toe (San Mao), one puncture on each side; bleeding will immediately resolve the condition.
[6] Counter-needling refers to needling the right DaDun [LR1] for left-sided conditions, and the left DaDun [LR1] for right-sided conditions.
[7] However, for the arterial pulse on the dorsum of the foot, the ShangGuan Chong vessel, and the Shaoyin and Yangming meridians, only shallow needling is suitable; excessive bleeding should be avoided.
