In women with amenorrhea or irregular menstruation, where hard masses persist in the uterus without dissipating, with dry blood retained inside and leukorrhea (white vaginal discharge), Fanshi Wan (Alum Pill) is the primary formula.
[Annotation]
"Cang" refers to the interior of the yin organs (uterus). "Bu zhi" means not going away. Amenorrhea implies stasis, which refers to old blood. The persistence of hard masses in the vagina indicates dried and coagulated blood. Leukorrhea results from blood transforming into vaginal discharge. Using Fanshi Wan as a suppository treats leukorrhea; this formula is suitable if the condition arises from dampness transformation, but it may not be effective for attacking hard masses and dry blood.
[Collected Notes]
You Yi stated: "Hard masses persisting in the uterus" refers to dry blood in the uterus that has hardened and formed a mass that does not dissipate. If dry blood is not expelled, new blood cannot nourish the body, leading to amenorrhea or irregular menstruation. Consequently, accumulation and discharge become irregular. Since the uterine cavity is inherently damp, the accumulated blood combines with dampness to form white discharge, which flows out spontaneously at times. In such cases, the dampness in the uterus should first be eliminated. Alum dries dampness, while Apricot Seed moistens dry blood.
Fansi (Calcined Alum) 3 fen; Xingren (Apricot Seed) 1 fen.
The above two ingredients are ground into powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of a jujube pit, and inserted into the vagina. For severe cases, re-insertion may be performed.

For women suffering from sixty-two types of wind pathogens and stabbing pain in the abdomen due to blood and qi stagnation, Honglanhua Jiu (Carthamus Wine) is the primary formula.
[Annotation]
The sixty-two types of wind pathogens cannot be verified historically. For stabbing pain in the abdomen caused by blood and qi stagnation, using Honglanhua Jiu to unblock the meridians and promote blood circulation is indeed an important formula.
Honglanhua (Flower of Carthamus tinctorius) 1 liang.

For various abdominal pains in women, Danggui Shaoyao San (Angelica and Paeonia Powder) is the primary formula.
[Annotation]
"Various abdominal pains" refers to all kinds of abdominal pain in women. Since it is described as "various pains," pathogenic factors such as cold, heat, deficiency, excess, qi stagnation, and food retention can all cause abdominal pain. How can a single formula comprehensively treat all these conditions? The statement that Danggui Shaoyao San is the primary formula for this is likely due to textual disorder in the bamboo slips.
