Zhi Shi Ying (Fluorite), Bai Shi Ying (White Fluorite), Chi Shi Zhi (Red Kaolin), Zhong Ru (Stalactite, processed by pounding and refining), Gua Lou Gen (Trichosanthes Root), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root), Jie Geng (Platycodon Root), Wen Ge (Clam Shell), Gui Jiu (Podophyllum Rhizome), each 10 parts;
Tai Yi Yu Liang (Hematite, calcined) 10 parts; Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger), Fu Zi (Prepared Aconite Root, peeled), Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig, peeled), each 4 parts.
The above thirteen herbs are pounded into a powder. Take one fang cun bi (a square-inch measure) with wine.
[Note]
The origin of this formula is unknown, so it is not explained.
Shi Jue (Corpse Coma) presents with a pulsating pulse but absent breath. Qi blockage prevents circulation, causing the patient to remain still and appear dead. The treatment formula is as follows:
Insert powdered Chang Pu (Acorus Rhizome) into both nostrils by blowing it in, and place Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig) powder under the tongue.
[Annotation]
When the body appears healthy, yet the person has breath but an abnormal pulse rhythm, it is called "Xing Shi" (Walking Corpse). Sudden death with unconsciousness, absence of breath, but a pulse beating as usual, is called "Shi Jue" (Corpse Coma).
Shi Jue occurs when righteous qi is suddenly blocked by pathogenic factors, leading to stillness and an appearance of death. Using Chang Pu inserted into the nose and Gui Zhi placed under the tongue aims to unblock the Heart Spirit and awaken Yang Qi.
Another formula:
Scrape one fang cun (square inch) of hair from the left horn area, burn it to ash, mix with wine, and pour down the throat. The patient will revive immediately.
[Formula Analysis]
If blowing Chang Pu into the nose and placing Gui Zhi under the tongue fails to cure, this method is used. Hair is considered the surplus of blood, and blood is generated by the Heart. Burning the hair releases its Yang energy, while wine promotes the movement of Qi and Blood. Using the patient's own hair is preferred because it facilitates resonance through shared Qi.
Pour juice of Xie (Allium Macrostemon) into the nostrils.
[Formula Analysis]
Sudden fainting or death all fall under Shi Jue. Xie Bai resembles garlic but is smaller; northerners call it Xiao Gen Cai (Small Root Vegetable), and southerners call it Diao Qiao. Its flavor is extremely pungent. Pouring its juice into the nose serves to open orifices and induce sneezing.
Another formula:
Cut blood from the comb of a rooster and blow it into the nostrils using a tube.
Take Pig Fat (Su Zhi) the size of a chicken egg and one sheng (approx. 200ml) of Ku Jiu (Vinegar), boil together, and pour down the throat.
Apply Chicken Liver and blood to the face, and surround the head with ash. The patient will revive immediately.
Take fourteen (two sevens) Soybeans (Da Dou), mix with Egg White (Ji Zi Bai) and wine, and swallow completely.
[Formula Analysis]
Rooster comb blood, liver, egg white, pig fat, soybeans, wine, and vinegar are all utilized for their Yang properties to overcome Yin pathogenic influences. Blowing the medicine into the nose via a tube involves having a healthy person hold the rooster blood or hot wine mixture in their mouth, inserting a reed or brush tube into the patient's nostril, and blowing the air along with the medicine. This allows the medicine to be swallowed naturally, unblocking Qi and opening the clenched jaw.
