火喘燥渴红面唇，肺胃凉膈白虎清，泻心宜用导赤散，阴虚如蘖地黄灵。

火邪刑金作喘者，多口干舌燥作渴，面赤唇红也，
因于肺热者，以凉膈散主之，
胃热者，凉膈白虎汤主之，
心火刑金者，导赤散主之，
肾虚火来烁金者，宜知蘖地黄汤主之，
医者果能审察精详，按证调治，庶几用药如响，而不致有虚实之误矣。

(凉膈白虎汤) 大黄生 朴硝 甘草生 连翘去心 栀子 黄芩生
薄荷叶 石膏生 知母生 引用粳米水煎，温服。

(导赤散) 方见不小便。

喘证门
火邪所致之喘，伴有燥渴、面红唇赤，若因肺热引起，宜用凉膈散；若因胃热引起，宜用凉膈散合白虎汤清解；若因心火刑金（心火灼伤肺金）引起，宜用导赤散；若因肾阴虚火旺灼伤肺金引起，宜用知蘖地黄汤。

火邪克制肺金导致作喘的病症，多表现为口干舌燥、口渴、面色红赤、嘴唇红润。
如果是由于肺热引起的，以凉膈散为主治方剂；
如果是由于胃热引起的，以凉膈散合白虎汤为主治方剂；
如果是由于心火克制肺金引起的，以导赤散为主治方剂；
如果是由于肾虚之火来灼伤肺金引起的，宜用知蘖地黄汤为主治方剂。
医生如果能审慎察证、精细详查，按照证候进行调理治疗，那么用药就能像回声一样迅速见效，而不会犯虚实辨证错误的毛病了。
(凉膈散) 方剂见急惊风章节。
(凉膈白虎汤) 大黄（生用）、朴硝、甘草（生用）、连翘（去心）、栀子、黄芩（生用）、薄荷叶、石膏（生用）、知母（生用）。引用粳米，水煎煮，温服。

(导赤散) 方剂见小便不利章节。

**Asthma due to Fire, Dryness, Thirst, and Red Face/Lips:**
For asthma accompanied by dryness-thirst, red face, and red lips caused by fire pathogen: if due to Lung heat, use Liangge San (Cool the Diaphragm Powder); if due to Stomach heat, use Liangge Baihu Tang (Cool the Diaphragm combined with White Tiger Decoction) to clear heat; if due to Heart fire insulting Metal (Heart fire damaging the Lung), use Daochi San (Drain the Bladder Powder); if due to Kidney Yin deficiency with empty fire scorching Metal, use Zhibai Dihuang Wan (Anemarrhena, Phellodendron, and Rehmannia Pill).
[Note]
Asthma caused by fire pathogen suppressing Lung Metal often presents with dry mouth, dry tongue, thirst, red face, and red lips.
If caused by Lung heat, treat primarily with Liangge San (Cool the Diaphragm Powder).
If caused by Stomach heat, treat primarily with Liangge Baihu Tang (Cool the Diaphragm combined with White Tiger Decoction).
If caused by Heart fire insulting Metal, treat primarily with Daochi San (Drain the Bladder Powder).
If caused by Kidney deficiency fire scorching Lung Metal, treat primarily with Zhibai Dihuang Wan (Anemarrhena, Phellodendron, and Rehmannia Pill).
If physicians can carefully examine and precisely differentiate the syndrome, and regulate treatment according to the pattern, medication will act as swiftly as an echo, avoiding errors of confusing excess and deficiency.

(Liangge Baihu Tang / Cool the Diaphragm combined with White Tiger Decoction): Da Huang (Rhubarb Radix et Rhizoma, raw), Piao Xiao (Natrii Sulfas), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, raw), Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus, heart removed), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, raw), Bo He Ye (Menthae Haplocalycis Folium), Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, raw), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, raw). Chapter on Asthma Syndrome
**Deficient Asthma:**
Deficient asthma is characterized by Qi deficiency, shortness of breath, and hoarse/short voice. Jiegu Huangqi Tang (Jiegu Astragalus Decoction) is highly effective; Baihe Gujin Tang (Lily Preserving Metal Decoction) resolves deficient phlegm; Benshi Huangqi Tang (Benshi Astragalus Decoction) clears deficient heat.

In cases of deficient asthma, where Qi is weak and voice is short and hesitant, treat primarily with Jiegu Huangqi Tang (Jiegu Astragalus Decoction).
If asthma is accompanied by panting and phlegm, treat primarily with Baihe Gujin Tang (Lily Preserving Metal Decoction).
If accompanied by heat, treat primarily with Benshi Huangqi Tang (Benshi Astragalus Decoction).
(Jiegu Huangqi Tang / Jiegu Astragalus Decoction): Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix, honey-fried), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Di Gu Pi (Lycii Cortex), Sang Bai Pi (Mori Cortex, stir-fried). Decoct in water, take warm.
(Verse Formula):
Jiegu Huangqi Tang, best for deficient asthma,
Ren Shen and Huang Qi together,
With Gan Cao, Di Gu Pi, and Sang Bai Pi.
(Baihe Gujin Tang / Lily Preserving Metal Decoction): Bai He (Lilii Bulbus), Tian Men Dong (Asparagi Radix), Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Bai Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, stir-fried), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, raw), Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, heart removed), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix). Decoct in water and take.

Baihe Gujin treats deficient phlegm and asthma,
Bai He, two Dong herbs, and two Di Huangs.
Dang Gui, Bai Shao, raw Gan Cao,
Bei Mu, Yuan Shen, and Jie Geng are good.
(Benshi Huangqi Tang / Benshi Astragalus Decoction): Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Bai Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Tian Men Dong (Asparagi Radix), Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix, honey-fried), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Fu Ling (Poria). Add Wu Mei (Mume Fructus), Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Da Zao (Jujubae Fructus), decoct in water and take.
