[Prescription Verse] Gan Ju (Gan Abscess) arises from Qi stagnation caused by worry and overthinking. It appears on the chest, resembling a grain of millet with a purple, atrophic shape. Accompanied by chills, fever, hardness, and pain, it should be induced to suppurate quickly; if suppuration is delayed, one must guard against the sinking of pathogenic factors into the interior.
[Commentary] This condition is formed by Qi stagnation due to worry and overthinking. It occurs on the anterior chest (the raised fleshy areas on both sides of the chest), below the Zhongfu (LU-1) acupoint of the Lung Meridian, and can affect either the left or right side. Initially, it resembles a millet grain and is green in color; gradually, it turns purple like a Trichosanthes fruit, becoming hard and painful, accompanied by aversion to cold and high fever. If it suppurates quickly with thick pus, it is a favorable sign (Shun). If after ten days the chills and fever do not subside, no pus forms, and the pulse is floating and rapid, one must guard against the sinking of toxins into the interior, which leads to malignant conditions; this is an unfavorable sign (Ni). Initially, Jingfang Baidu San (Atractylodes and Saposhnikovia Decoction for Overcoming Toxins) is suitable to disperse and resolve chills and fever, followed by Neituo Huangqi San (Huangqi Decoction for Internal Support). If it does not suppurate when expected, Shiquan Dabu Tang (Comprehensive Great Tonifying Decoction) should be taken urgently to support the expulsion of toxins. For other internal and external treatments, refer to the sections on Carbuncles and Ulcers (Swelling/Ulceration stages).

[Prescription Verse] Danzhong Ju (Danzhong Abscess) begins as a millet-grain-like nodule, purple in color and hard, gradually developing redness, swelling, heat, and pain. It arises from Fire-Toxin generated by Seven Emotions affecting the Ren Meridian. Treatment must be urgent according to the syndrome; delay leads to ominous outcomes.
[Commentary] This condition occurs above the epigastrium, in the center between the two breasts, belonging to the Danzhong (CV-17) acupoint of the Ren Meridian. It is caused by disharmony of the Zang-Fu organs and imbalance of the Seven Emotions, leading to the condensation of Fire-Toxin. Initially, it resembles a millet seed, is purple and hard, and gradually develops redness, swelling, heat, and pain, accompanied by aversion to cold and high fever. Xianfang Huoming Yin (Immortal Life-Deciding Decoction) added with Perilla Leaf (Zi Su Ye) and Mint Leaf (Bo He Ye) should be taken urgently to induce sweating. If restlessness, vomiting, cracked lips, and extreme thirst occur, Dueming Dan (Life-Taking Pill) should be taken to clear heat. Once the exterior syndrome has subsided, Tuoli Tou Nong Tang (Interior-Supporting Pus-Penetrating Decoction) should be taken urgently. If the lesion fails to rise, indicating deficiency, Shiquan Dabu Tang (Comprehensive Great Tonifying Decoction) should be taken to support the expulsion of toxins. However, this area is where the Qi of the Qi Sea resides; treatment must be early. If delayed, toxins sink into the interior, damaging the membranes and obstructing Qi transmission, which is an unfavorable sign (Ni). For other internal and external treatments, refer to the sections on Carbuncles and Ulcers (Swelling/Ulceration stages).

Xianfang Huoming Yin (See Swelling Section)
