[Prescription Verse] The manifestations of tinea (Xuan syndrome) are of six types; wind, heat, dampness, and parasites are the root causes. These include dry tinea, wet tinea, wind tinea, psoriasis-like tinea (Niu Pi Xuan), pine-bark tinea (Song Pi Xuan), and knife-cut tinea (Dao Xuan). They tend to appear on the face in spring, resembling rotating peach blossoms.
[Annotation] This condition is generally caused by wind-heat-dampness pathogens invading the skin. After long-term stagnation, excessive wind transforms into parasites, resulting in incessant itching. There are six names: First is dry tinea (Gan Xuan), where scratching produces white scales and the skin becomes dry and withered; second is wet tinea (Shi Xuan), where scratching exudes sticky fluid, spreading like insect movement; third is wind tinea (Feng Xuan), which refers to chronic stubborn tinea that has not healed for years, causing numbness and loss of sensation upon scratching; fourth is psoriasis-like tinea (Niu Pi Xuan), resembling the thick and hard skin of a cow's neck; fifth is pine-bark tinea (Song Pi Xuan), resembling the bark of an old pine tree, with connected red and white spots and intermittent itching; sixth is knife-cut tinea (Dao Xuan), lacking clear boundaries and varying in shape. The general principle is to apply herbs that eliminate parasites, drain dampness, and detoxify. For mild cases, use Yangti Gen San (Alum Root Powder); for chronic stubborn cases, use Bi Xiao San (Surely Effective Powder). In cases where spleen and lung wind-dampness are excessive leading to swelling and pain, it is appropriate to take San Feng Ku Shen Wan (Wind-Dispersing Sophora Pill) to disperse wind-dampness, after which the swelling and pain will subside. Additionally, there is facial wind tinea, initially appearing as excrescences or gradually forming small sores, with intermittent pain and itching, occurring in spring. It is also called Chui Hua Xuan (Blown Flower Tinea), commonly known as Tao Hua Xuan (Peach Blossom Tinea), and is common among women. This is caused by wind-heat in the lungs and stomach rising with yang qi. It is appropriate to take Shu Feng Qing Re Yin (Wind-Dispersing Heat-Clearing Decoction) internally and apply Xiao Feng Yu Rong San (Wind-Dispersing Beauty-Promoting Powder) externally, washing daily for effective results.
