Commentary:
The Du Mai (Du Meridian, Governor Vessel) starts at Changqiang (GV1). This originally comes from *Lingshu · Jingmai Chapter* stating: The collateral branch of the Du Mai (Du Meridian, Governor Vessel) named Changqiang (GV1) runs alongside the erector spinae muscles up to the neck, scatters around the head above and below, lies opposite the left and right shoulder blades, diverges to run with the Taiyang (Bladder) Meridian, and enters to penetrate the erector spinae muscles.
Notes: [1] The collateral branch of the Du Mai (Du Meridian, Governor Vessel) originates at Changqiang (GV1), i.e., it surrounds the anus posteriorly, externally combines with the Taiyang (Bladder) Meridian, and circulates through the Weili area; this point is Changqiang (GV1).
[2] "Running alongside the erector spinae muscles up to the neck, scattering around the head, lying opposite the left and right shoulder blades, diverging to run with the Taiyang (Bladder) Meridian, and entering to penetrate the erector spinae muscles" refers to the Du Mai (Du Meridian, Governor Vessel) ascending along the lateral side.
[3] Therefore, *Nan Jing* states: Originating from the Shu point of the lower extreme.
[4] That is, the area between the tailbone where Changqiang (GV1) is located.
[5] "Combining into the spine interior," i.e., flanking the spine.
[6] "Ascending to Fengfu (GV16) and entering to belong to the brain," i.e., ascending to the neck and scattering around the head.
[7] From Changqiang (GV1) penetrating up the spine to below the twenty-first vertebra, this is Yaoshu (GV12).
[8] Below the sixteenth vertebra is Yangguan (GV13).
[9] Below the fourteenth vertebra is Mingmen (GV4).
[10] Below the thirteenth vertebra is Xianshu (GV15).
[11] Below the eleventh vertebra is Jizhong (GV9).
[12] Below the tenth vertebra is Zhongshu (GV12).
[13] Below the ninth vertebra is Jinsuo (GV8).
[14] Below the seventh vertebra is Zhiyang (GV9).
[15] Below the sixth vertebra is Lingtai (GV10).
[16] Below the fifth vertebra is Shendao (GV11).
[17] Below the third vertebra is Shenzhu (GV12).
[18] Below the first vertebra is Taodao (GV13).
[19] Above the first vertebra is Dazhui (GV14).
[20] Ascending to the upper hairline is Ximen (GV22).
[21] Entering the hairline from Ximen (GV22) is Fengfu (GV16).
[22] Ascending one cun five fen from Fengfu (GV16) on the upper occipital bone is Naohu (GV17).
[23] Ascending one cun five fen from Naohu (GV17) is Qiangjian (GV18).
[24] Ascending one cun five fen from Qiangjian (GV18) is Houding (GV19).
[25] Ascending one cun five fen from Qiangjian (GV18) is Houding (GV19). (Note: Original text repeats or contains an error here; typically Baihui follows Houding, but translated as per original).
[26] Ascending one cun five fen from Houding (GV19), directly in the depression at the top of the head aligned with the tips of both ears, is Baihui (GV20).
[27] Moving forward one cun five fen from Baihui (GV20) is Qianding (GV21).
[28] Moving forward one cun five fen from Qianding (GV21) is Xinhui (GV22).
[29] Moving forward one cun further from Xinhui (GV22) is Shangxing (GV23).
[30] From Shangxing (GV23) to the anterior hairline is Shenting (GV24).
[31] The distance between the anterior and posterior hairlines measured by bone proportion is one chi two cun. From the anterior hairline down to the tip of the nose (Zhuntou) is Suliao (GV25).
[32] In the central groove below the nasal column, near the nostrils' depression, is Shuigou (GV26).
[33] At the upper end of the lip is Duanduan (GV27).
[34] In the gum seam above the teeth inside the lip is Yinjiao (GV28). These twenty-eight acupoints all circulate along the midline of the back (see Figure 77).
Commentary: *Nan Jing* Twenty-Eighth Difficulty states: The Du Mai (Du Meridian, Governor Vessel) originates from the Shu point of the lower extreme, runs parallel inside the spine upwards, and enters to belong to the brain at Fengfu (GV16). This refers to the acupoints. The previous discussion regarding the meridian originating from the lower abdomen refers to the circulation pathway.
