劫劳散

Jie Lao San (Robbing Labor Powder)
10. Amenorrhea accompanied by steaming bone fever, tidal fever, and night sweats; decreased appetite, cough, and Xue Feng Lao (Blood Wind Consumption Syndrome) should be treated with Jie Lao San. This formula consists of Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Fuling (Poria), Baishao (White Peony Root), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), and Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini).
[Note] When amenorrhea persists for a long time and is accompanied by chronic cough, along with symptoms such as steaming bone fever, tidal fever, night sweats, spontaneous sweating, and decreased appetite, it is diagnosed as Xue Feng Lao (Blood Wind Consumption Syndrome). It is appropriate to use Jie Lao San, which comprises Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Fuling (Poria), Baishao (White Peony Root), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), and Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini).
Qin Xin Wan (Scutellaria Heart Pill) Yi Yin Jian (Benefit Yin Decoction)
11. If menstruation resumes after cessation due to severe Blood Heat, Qin Xin Wan (Scutellaria Heart Pill) prepared with vinegar can be taken with warm wine. Alternatively, Yi Yin Jian (Benefit Yin Decoction) may be used, containing Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Guiban (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Suosha Ren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), Dazao (Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus), and Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens). If excessive blood loss leads to the dissipation of heat with the blood and damage to the Chong and Ren meridians, Shi Quan Da Bu Tang (Ten Ingredients Great Tonifying Decoction) or Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) should be used. If caused by violent anger damaging the Liver and忧思 (worry and overthinking) damaging the Spleen, Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) or Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) should be considered.
[Note] After women reach the age of forty-nine (seven times seven years), Tian Gui (the substance governing reproductive maturity) ceases, and menstruation should stop. If menstruation stops and then resumes without other symptoms, it indicates an excess of blood and does not require medication to forcibly stop it. If caused by Blood Heat, Qin Xin Wan (Scutellaria Heart Pill) is suitable: take two liang of Scutellariae Radix powder, form pills with vinegar, and swallow with warm wine. Or use Yi Yin Jian (Benefit Yin Decoction), consisting of Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Guiban (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Suosha Ren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), and Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Radix et Rhizoma). If blood loss is excessive, heat dissipates with the blood, leading to deficiency and damage to the Chong and Ren meridians, causing unstable blood retention, Shi Quan Da Bu Tang (Ten Ingredients Great Tonifying Decoction) and Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) are appropriate. If anger injures the Liver, causing it to fail to store blood, or worry and overthinking injure the Spleen, causing it to fail to control blood, one should酌情 (discretionarily) choose between Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) and Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction).
Shi Quan Da Bu Tang (Ten Ingredients Great Tonifying Decoction), Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction), Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder), and Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) are all described in the preceding Menstrual Regulation section.
Da Huang Zhe Chong Wan (Rhubarb and Ground Beetle Pill) Ze Lan Ye Tang (Lycopus Leaf Decoction) Bai Zi Ren Wan (Biota Seed Pill)
12. Amenorrhea in unmarried girls is often due to Blood Stasis accumulation. Da Huang Zhe Chong Wan (Rhubarb and Ground Beetle Pill) can be used, containing Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Zhe Chong (Eupolyphaga), Taoren (Persicae Semen), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Meng Chong (Vomica), Shuizhi (Hirudo), Qicao (Silkworm Larva), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), Baishao (White Peony Root), Ganqi (Drymarchon Coriaceus Resin - note: usually refers to Drynaria or similar resinous herb in this context, specifically Gan Qi 干漆 is Toxicodendri Lacca Fructus), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), and Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix). For those with insufficiency who cannot tolerate purgative attacks, Ze Lan Ye Tang (Lycopus Leaf Decoction) can be used, containing Ze Lan Ye (Lycopi Herba), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), and Baishao (White Peony Root). Concurrently, Bai Zi Ren Wan (Biota Seed Pill) can be taken, composed of Bai Zi Ren (Biota Semen), Shudi (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix), Ze Lan Ye (Lycopi Herba), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Juan Bai (Selaginellae Herba), and Xuduan (Drynariae Rhizoma). Taking both decoction and pills together over a long period will naturally restore menstruation. For nuns, widows, and celibate women with amenorrhea, the condition often belongs to Depressed Heat. Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) should be used, modified with Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Ze Lan Ye (Lycopi Herba), Danpi (Moutan Cortex), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Yujin (Curcumae Radix), Hei Zhi Zi (Black Gardenia Fruit), and Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) to harmonize the Liver and Spleen, clear the Heart, and resolve depression, allowing menstruation to resume naturally.
[Note] Amenorrhea in unmarried girls often involves Qi and Blood stagnation. Da Huang Zhe Chong Wan (Rhubarb and Ground Beetle Pill) is suitable to break blood stasis and move Qi, thereby naturally unblocking menstruation. The formula contains Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Zhe Chong (Eupolyphaga), Taoren (Persicae Semen), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Meng Chong (Vomica), Shuizhi (Hirudo), Qicao (Silkworm Larva), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), Baishao (White Peony Root), Ganqi (Toxicodendri Lacca Fructus), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), and Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), formed into honeyed pills. If the patient is weak and cannot endure attacking methods, Ze Lan Ye Tang (Lycopus Leaf Decoction) should be used, comprising Ze Lan Ye (Lycopi Herba), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), and Baishao (White Peony Root). Concurrently take Bai Zi Ren Wan (Biota Seed Pill), made from Bai Zi Ren (Biota Semen), Shudi (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix), Ze Lan Ye (Lycopi Herba), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Juan Bai (Selaginellae Herba), and Xuduan (Drynariae Rhizoma). Administer both decoction and pills together; with prolonged use, menstruation will naturally flow. Regarding amenorrhea in nuns, widows, and celibate women, it mostly stems from Depressed Heat. Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) should be used, added with Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Ze Lan Ye (Lycopi Herba), Danpi (Moutan Cortex), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Yujin (Curcumae Radix), Hei Zhi Zi (Black Gardenia Fruit), and Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) to harmonize the Liver and Spleen, clear the Heart, and open up depression, so that menstruation will naturally resume.
Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) is seen in the preceding Menstrual Regulation section.
