**Method of Black Soybean Paste for Frail Infants**
The method using fermented soybean paste is most effective for dispelling fetal toxins. It is also suitable for infants born in winter; decoct a concentrated liquid and administer it like milk.
[Note]
Dan Dou Chi (Fermented Soybean) is a light and mild herb that promotes dispersion and venting.
For frail infants, or those whose parents wish to clear fetal toxins during winter,
simply decoct this herb into a concentrated liquid and give the infant three to five mouthfuls; the toxin will naturally dissipate.
**Umbilical Cord Cutting and Cauterization**
Cut the cord and cauterize immediately; six cun is appropriate for both males and females. Cauterizing the navel with moxibustion prevents wind invasion, while applying Hu Fen powder seals the navel to avoid dampness.
[Note]
When an infant is first born, heat scissors over a fire, cut the umbilical cord, and then use a heated instrument to cauterize around the base of the cord.
The length should be six cun; do not make it too short or too long. If too short, internal organs may be damaged; if too long, muscle tissue may be harmed. After cutting,
place a "Navel Cauterization Cake" on the navel and apply moxibustion to prevent external wind pathogens from entering.
Subsequently, apply Hu Fen Powder to the area between the umbilical stump and the skin, and seal it with soft silk and new cotton to protect against urine moisture and wind pathogens.
If these preparations are unavailable, use a small piece of fine, cooked mugwort (Ai Ye), and seal it according to the aforementioned methods.
(Hu Fen Powder) Hu Fen (Lead Carbonate), Zeng Dai Hui (Steamer-band Ash), Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger), Bai Shi Zhi (White Halloysite), Mian Hui (Cotton Ash) in equal parts, and a small amount of She Xiang (Musk).
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Use one qian per application, sprinkle on the navel, and cover.
(Navel Cauterization Cake) Dou Chi (Fermented Soybean), Huang La (Yellow Beeswax) in equal parts, and a small amount of She Xiang (Musk). Grind the Dou Chi and She Xiang evenly, melt the Huang La, and shape into cakes according to the size of the navel for moxibustion.
**Bathing Method: Five-Branch Decoction**
The bathing method uses Wu Zhi Tang (Five-Branch Decoction); its temperature should be moderate in both winter and summer. Adding Porcine Bile removes impurities and nourishes the skin to prevent sores.
[Note]
Bathe the infant three days after cutting the umbilical cord; this practice has been used since ancient times to cleanse dirt and impurities.
During bathing, choose a draft-free, enclosed area, and ensure the water temperature is moderate. Do not keep the infant in the water for too long.
In winter, guard against cold; in summer, guard against heat.
To prepare the bath decoction, boil branches of peach, locust tree, mulberry, plum, and willow. Add Porcine Bile to remove impurities,
and to nourish the skin, preventing the occurrence of fetal sores.
