According to *Yufang Mijue* (Secrets of the Jade Chamber): Cai Nu asked, "Why does the disease of 'ghost intercourse' occur?" Peng Zu replied, "It is due to the failure of Yin and Yang energies to interact normally, with excessive emotional desire, causing ghosts or spirits to assume forms and engage in intercourse with the patient. This leads to death without anyone knowing. If one obtains the method to treat this disease, and if the body is too fatigued to perform intercourse alone, simply pressing deeply without moving is also beneficial. Untreated, it will kill within a few years. To verify the facts, during spring and autumn seasons, enter deep mountains and large marshes, doing nothing but gazing afar and intensely contemplating male-female union. After three days and nights, the body will suddenly feel unwell, experiencing alternating chills and fever, vexation, and dizziness. Men see women, women see men, engaging only in intercourse; these figures appear more beautiful than humans, yet this is definitely a pathological state. Such cases will inevitably arise in later generations. If a virgin or noblewoman suffers from improper intercourse, treating her by having intercourse with a man, one should burn several taels of sulfur to fumigate the woman's vulva and lower body, and administer one cun-bi of deer horn powder orally, which will cure the condition. The patient should see ghosts weeping and leaving. Another method is to take one cun-bi of deer horn powder, three times daily, until recovery. Currently, methods for treating ghost intercourse are found in various prescriptions, detailed in the section on women's diseases.
According to *Qianjin Fang*: Cai Nu said, "Regarding sexual intercourse, I have heard of it. May I ask which medicinal substances are effective when ingested?" Peng Zu said, "The method to make people vigorous and ageless is to take elk antler, scrape it into powder (ten taels), then use one raw Aconitum carmichaelii root (Bajiao Sheng Fuzi), mix them, and take one cun-bi orally, three times daily, which is very effective. Alternatively, roast the elk antler until slightly yellow, crush and sieve it, take one cun-bi orally, three times daily. It is also stated: For treating impotence where erection does not occur, occurs but is not thick, is thick but not long, is long but not hot, is hot but not firm, is firm but not lasting, lasts but has no semen, or semen is thin and cold: Use Cistanche Deserticola (Rou Cong Rong), Helictite (Zhong Ru), Cnidium Fruit (She Chuang Zi), Polygala Root (Yuan Zhi), Dipsacus Root (Xu Duan), Yam (Shu Yu), and Deer Antler (Lu Rong). These seven herbs, each three taels, taken with wine, one cun-bi per dose, twice daily. To increase frequency of intercourse, double the She Chuang Zi; to increase hardness, double the Yuan Zhi; to increase size, double the Lu Rong; to increase semen volume, double the Zhong Ru. (Current analysis: *Yufang Mijue* states: Treating male impotence where erection does not occur, occurs but is not strong, and lacks emotion during intercourse, indicating deficient Yang Qi and weak Kidney source, use this formula: Cistanche Deserticola (five flavors? likely referring to Wu Wei Zi mixed or specific preparation) two fen, Cnidium Fruit, Dodder Seed (Tu Si Zi), Aurantium Fruit (Zhi Shi) four fen each.
