首先从脚部开始肿胀的,名为白水,其病根在肺,用椒目为主药治疗;
首先从胸部开始肿胀的,名为气水,时胀时消,其病根在肠,用芫花为主药治疗;
首先从大腿开始肿胀的,名为黑水,其病根在肾,用玄参为主药治疗;
首先从面部开始肿胀,并蔓延至足部的,名为悬水,其病根在胆,用赤小豆为主药治疗;
首先从体内深处出现坚硬肿块,四肢肿胀的,名为石水,其病根在膀胱,用桑根白皮为主药治疗;
首先从四肢开始肿胀,腹部也肿胀的,名为风水,其病根在胃,用泽漆为主药治疗;
首先从腹部开始肿胀的,名为冷水,其病根在小肠,用巴豆为主药治疗;
又说:十水散,治疗水肿的方剂;
首先从脚部开始肿胀的,名为清水,其病根在心,用葶苈子为主药治疗;
第一种水,首先从面目开始肿胀,全身遍布,名为青水,其病根在肝,用大戟为主药治疗;

The *Treatise on the Pathogenesis of Various Diseases* (Bingyuan Lun) states: The so-called "Ten Waters" refer to Green Water, Red Water, Yellow Water, White Water, Black Water, Suspended Water, Wind Water, Stone Water, Interior Water (Text originally says Qi Water, corrected here based on context), and others.
First, swelling starting from the feet is named **White Water** (Baishui). Its root lies in the Lung; it is treated primarily with **Zhaomu** (Semen Lepidii / Lepidium Seed).
Swelling starting from the chest is named **Qi Water** (Qishui), characterized by alternating fullness and emptiness. Its root lies in the Intestines; it is treated primarily with **Yuanhua** (Flos Genkwa).
Swelling starting from the thighs is named **Black Water** (Heishui). Its root lies in the Kidney; it is treated primarily with **Xuanshen** (Radix Scrophulariae).
Swelling starting from the face and extending to the feet is named **Suspended Water** (Xuanshui). Its root lies in the Gallbladder; it is treated primarily with **Chixiaodou** (Semen Phaseoli Angularis / Adzuki Bean).
Swelling beginning with hard masses deep within the body and accompanied by limb edema is named **Stone Water** (Shuishui). Its root lies in the Bladder; it is treated primarily with **Sanggen** (Cortex Mori Radicis / Mulberry Root Bark).
Swelling starting from the limbs with abdominal distension is named **Wind Water** (Fengshui). Its root lies in the Stomach; it is treated primarily with **Zeqi** (Herba Euphorbiae Helioscopiae).
Swelling starting from the abdomen is named **Cold Water** (Lengshui). Its root lies in the Small Intestine; it is treated primarily with **Badou** (Semen Crotonis).
Swelling starting from the chest is named **Red Water** (Chishui). Its root lies in the Heart; it is treated primarily with **Tinglizi** (Semen Lepidii / Lepidium Seed). For these ten types, according to the site where the disease begins, increase the dosage of the corresponding primary herb by one fen. Use four fen of **Badou** (Semen Crotonis), removing the heart and skin, grinding into powder, sifting, and mixing with honey to make pills the size of a wax gourd seed. Take three pills per dose, stopping when bowel movements become loose. If not effective, take three times daily. Alternatively, prepare as a powder, taking half a qianbi (a small measuring spoon) each time. If diarrhea is excessive, resume the next morning following the same method. After recovery upon re-dosing, observe dietary restrictions, allowing only dried fish.
It also states: **Ten Water Powder** (Shishui San) for treating edema:
Swelling starting from the feet is named **Clear Water** (Qingshui). Its root lies in the Heart; it is treated primarily with **Tinglizi** (Semen Lepidii).
Swelling starting from the yin organs/genitals is named **Ghost Water** (Guishui). Its root lies in the Gallbladder; it is treated primarily with **Xionghuang** (Realgar). For the above ten herbs, use two fen of each, grind together, sift, and take one fangcunbi (a square-inch measure) with water on an empty stomach. If there is much watery stool, reduce the dose; if little, increase it.
The *Fan Wang Fang* formula for Ten Water Pills:
