The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases) states: When a child is in the womb, if the mother's care and nursing are improper, she may be injured by wind-cold pathogens. The pathogenic qi enters the uterus and damages the fetus's Zang-Fu organs. Therefore, after birth, the pathogenic qi remains within the child's abdomen. When the pathogenic qi moves and contends with the healthy qi, it causes abdominal pain, leading the infant to cry with an open mouth and furrowed brow.
The *Qianjin Fang* (Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) records: Take one pellet of fresh horse manure, squeeze out the juice, and let the child hold it in the mouth.
Another prescription: Boil pig manure, pour boiling water over it to extract the liquid, use this liquid to bathe the child, and also give a small amount for drinking.
The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* states: Malaria (*Nue Bing*) arises from summer-heat injury in summer, which manifests when autumn wind-pathogens take advantage of the weakened state. If infants contract malaria without having directly encountered summer-heat, it is because the wet nurse holding the child was negligent and failed to avoid wind exposure.
The *Qianjin Fang* records: Take powder made from fresh deer horn and administer one *qianbi* (a spoon-like measure) before the onset of the disease.
Another prescription: Calcinate turtle shell, administer one *cunbi* (a square-inch measure) with wine; at the time of fever onset, administer three measures, and simultaneously apply moxibustion to the body.
The *Ge Shi Fang* (Formulas of Master Ge) states: At the time of impending attack, crush large *Fuzi* (Prepared Aconite Root), sieve it, mix with vinegar, and apply to the back.
Another prescription: Decoct *Shichangpu* (Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii) thickly, and use the decoction to bathe the child. (An interval of three to four hours is also suitable.)
Current analysis: The *Jiyan Fang* (Collected Proven Prescriptions) records: Press fourteen peach leaves onto the heart region, and apply fourteen moxa cones on top of the leaves.
The *Ge Shi Fang* states: *Hengshan* (Radix Dichroae) 4 fen, wheat 3 he, and chopped *Dan Zhuye* (Caulis Bambusae in Taeniam) 1 sheng. Take these ingredients, add three sheng of water, boil down to one sheng, and administer.
(Current analysis: The *Chan Jing* (Classic of Childbirth) states: For infants aged forty to sixty days postpartum, divide into three doses; or for infants up to one hundred days, administer two and a half he; or for infants around two hundred days, administer three he in one dose.)
The *Chan Jing* states: The practitioner holds a bowl of water in the left hand and a knife in the right hand, faces north towards the child, and says: "The Big Dipper governs all life and death destinies. Belonging to the Lord of the Big Dipper, Wang Moujia suffers from malaria; do not let it spread." After reciting this three times, perform the Yu Bu (Step of Yu) ritual approach to the sick child, instructing the child to look into the bowl. The practitioner then exhales sharply and thrusts the knife into the child's reflection in the bowl, chanting "Ji Ji Ru Lü Ling" (Act swiftly as the law commands), preventing the pathogen from returning. This is highly secret and effective; remove the knife only after the paroxysm has passed. (This matches the *Fan Wang Fang*.)
Another method: Write the characters "Tian Gong" (Heavenly Duke) on the head, face, chest, and back using a brush. On the chest, write a spell saying: "Beneath Mount Tai flows stagnant water, above which resides a divine dragon with nine heads and nine tails. It eats no other food, but specifically consumes malaria ghosts, eating one thousand in the morning and five hundred in the evening. If one meal is insufficient, I am sent to claim more. Upon hearing this, malaria ghosts flee their souls and run for a thousand li." Use cinnabar ink for writing.
