The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases) states: When a child's five zang organs have heat, and are externally attacked by wind-dampness, sores will erupt.
The *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) records: Take two parts of earth from the center of a stove and one part of hair ash, grind into fine powder, sift, and mix with lard to apply topically.
The *Chan Jing* (Classic of Childbirth) records: Extract juice from cow dung and apply it to the affected area.
Another prescription: Smoke the dried cow dung; this is effective.
Another prescription: Take the nest of the barn swallow, grind into powder, mix with water, and apply topically.
The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* states: Jin Yin Chuang (Infiltrating Sores) is formed by the struggle between wind-dampness and blood-qigong. It often occurs around the joints and wrists of the hands and feet, distributed in rings. Scratching causes itching and pain. The sore spreads and grows, hence called "Jin Yin" (infiltrating/spreading). It is named so because there are tiny insects in the sore, resembling mites.
The *Chan Jing* records a prescription for treating stubborn scabies in children and adults that has not healed after various treatments:
Di Yu (Radix Sanguisorbae), five liang; Lian Shi (Fructus Meliae Toosendan), one sheng; Tao Pi (Cortex Persicae), five liang; Ku Shen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis), five liang.
These four herbs are boiled in ten dou of water until reduced to five sheng. Wash the affected area while warm for good effect; this also treats tinea.
Another prescription: Take one he of white bark from the mulberry tree (specifically Gu Shu), one he of lard collected in the twelfth lunar month, two he of vinegar, half a he of small garlic, and half a he of soil from under the cooking pot. Grind these five substances into a paste, apply to the sore, wrap tightly, and reapply when dry.
The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* states: Heat in the fu-zang organs steams the skin, and external dampness invades, leading to the formation of sores. If the heat is particularly strong, the sore becomes very hot. Initially, it resembles a hemp seed, but quickly enlarges, oozes fluid, and ulcerates, resembling burns from boiling water or fire, thus named Wang Zhuo Chuang (King Scalding Sore, i.e., Impetigo).
The *Qianjin Fang* records a prescription for Wang Zhuo Chuang in children, where the whole body is covered with sores like hemp seeds or adzuki beans, discharging pus, with intermittent pain, itching, and heat:
Another prescription: Cook peach kernels, crush them thoroughly, mix with mian zhi (facial fat/oil), and apply.
Another prescription: Apply niu zi hui (cow dung ash).
Another prescription: Apply ai hui (mugwort ash).
The *Chan Jing* records a prescription for Huang Lan Chuang (Yellow Rotting Sore):
Huang Lian (Rhizoma Coptidis); Hu Fen (Lead Carbonate/White Lead).
Grind these two substances separately, sift, mix in equal proportions, blend with sesame oil, and apply.
The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* states: Sores appearing between the nose, ears, and mouth of a child are called Yue Shi Chuang (Moon-Eaten Sore/Mouth Corner Inflammation). These sores wax and wane with the moon, hence the name. Folklore says: If a child points at the newly born moon with their finger, sores will grow under the ear, thus called Yue Shi Chuang.
The *Qianjin Fang* records a prescription for treating scabies and Yue Shi Chuang in children: Mix Hu Fen (white lead) with su (ghee/butter) and apply.
It further states a prescription for Yue Shi Chuang affecting all nine orifices:
Another prescription: Burn earthworms until red-hot, grind into powder, mix with an ointment base, and apply.
The *Ge Shi Fang* records: On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, collect toad (bufotoxin) powder, mix with an ointment base, and apply.
The *Chan Jing* records: Extract juice from Luomo Cao (Cynanchum auriculatum) and apply.
Another prescription: Chop huai zhi (locust branch), boil to extract juice, and wash the affected area.
The *Long Men Fang* records: Mix xing ren (apricot kernel) with lard and apply.
The *Xu Zhi Cai Fang* records: Crush xiao bai pi (cypress bark) into powder and apply.
