According to *Shi Lun* (Treatise on Minerals): To treat the dispersal syndrome caused by taking minerals, where there is heat in the chest, coldness of the hands and feet, or a sensation of cold, use Gancao Tang (Licorice Decoction):
Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, one liang) Jupi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, two liang)
Take the above two herbs, add three sheng of water, and decoct until one and a half sheng remains. Wrap cotton around the tip of a chopstick, dip it into the liquid, and take multiple doses. Repeat after a short interval. Do not abstain from food during this time.
According to *Guangji Fang*: For fever caused by mineral qi, slight swelling of the body, and sores appearing on the face:
Hanshuishi (Halloysitum Rubrum)
Grind with cold water in a bowl (pronounced "guan" via fanqie) until the juice is thick. Apply to the sores; when dry, reapply. Do not stop.
According to *Bingyuan Lun* (Treatise on Pathogenesis of Various Diseases): Improper regulation leads to external wind-pathogen (pronounced "zhe" via fanqie) and internal accumulated heat. Heat enters the blood, causing stagnation of blood and qi, thus generating sores.
According to *Qianjin Fang*: To treat unbearable pain from disseminated sores:
Lengshi (Natrii Sulfas, five liang)
A single herb, finely powdered and sifted. Dust onto the sores. If dry and painful, calmness will return shortly. (Current verification: Tao Hongjing's annotation in *Bencao* states: Xiaoshi (Natrii Sulfas), also known as Lengshi.)
Also records a formula for fine disseminated sores:
Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis, five liang each) Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, five liang each)
Take these two herbs, add eight sheng of water, decoct Huanglian until four sheng remain. Strain, add Mangxiao, soak a cloth in the solution, and apply to the sores. Change frequently.
According to *Duanju Fang*: To treat sores all over the body, with skin cracking resembling broken meridians, requiring constant washing with water throughout the day:
Hu Ye (Leaves of an unspecified plant, likely related to Hu)
Chop and decoct. Warm washing and soaking are particularly effective. In winter, decoct the roots for oral administration.
According to *Lu Yan Fang*: Washing decoction for ulcerated sores resulting from mineral dispersal:
Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis, half a jin) Kushen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis, half a jin each) Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, half a jin)
Take these three herbs, add two dou of water, decoct until one dou remains. Strain. Wash with the liquid while extremely cold, three times daily.
According to *Xin Lu Fang*: General formulas for disseminated sores:
Grind Hemp Seeds (Cannabis Fructus) with water and apply, two to three times daily.
Another formula: Grind Vitex Fruit (Fructus Viticis Negundo) with water and apply, two to three times daily.
Another formula: Mix Fermented Soybean (Faba Fermentata) with water, grind into a paste, and apply, twice daily.
Qin Chengzu: Sanhuang Gao (Three Yellows Ointment) for treating disseminated hot sores:
Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, two liang) Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis, two liang) Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, two liang)
Soak the three herbs in good vinegar until fully submerged overnight. Add two jin of Pig Fat (Succus Porcinus) and simmer over low fire for three boils. Remove from heat immediately upon boiling. Strain and rub onto the affected area.
Also records a formula for sores floating on the skin surface:
Zibai Huangpi (Cortex Phloem Ziziphi Spinosae) Powdered and sifted. Mix with Egg White (Ovi Albumen) to form a paste. First decoct Zibai to obtain juice, wash the area, then apply the paste. Healing occurs in no more than two applications.
