Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, stir-fried with ginger juice) 5 qian, Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, stir-fried with ginger juice) 3 qian, Fuling (Poria) 4 qian, Zisu (Perillae Folium) 2 qian.
Decoct with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus).
Disease caused by the Seven Emotions (Joy, Anger, Worry, Thought, Sorrow, Fear, Fright), accompanied by phlegm-fluids, may occur suddenly. By regulating Qi and resolving phlegm, and opening to relieve stagnation, Qiqi Tang (Seven Qi Decoction) is considered an excellent formula.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Guigui (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) 1 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 5 fen.
Decoct with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens).
Yueju Wan (Yueju Pill) treats depression due to Qi excess, while Siqi Tang (Four Qi Decoction) treats depression due to Qi deficiency. Deficiency generates cold; one cannot claim that Qi disorders never involve cold syndromes. Providing this method helps avoid the risk of biased treatment.
Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos) 3 liang, Daizheshi (Haematitum) 1 liang, Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 2 liang, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 3 liang, Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) half sheng, Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 5 liang, Dazao (Jujubae Fructus) 12 pieces.
After sweating, vomiting, or purging, the Middle Jiao is deficient and Qi rebels upward; further attacking methods are contraindicated. Therefore, heavy substances are used to anchor and calm, sweet substances to moderate and ease, and pungent substances to disperse.
Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), Shidi (Diospyri Kaki Calyx) 2 qian, Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian, Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 5 slices.
Hiccups (E Ni) manifest in various ways. If Kidney Qi fails to secure and rebellious Qi ascends, presenting with sweating on the head and slight panting, a large dose of Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) should be used to secure True Yang. This is the essential method for treating continuous hiccups, which Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos) and Shidi (Diospyri Kaki Calyx) alone cannot accomplish. However, if hiccups are caused by Cold invading the Stomach and Qi stagnation, this formula is appropriate. Danxi (Zhu Zhenheng) attributed hiccups to Ministerial Fire rushing upward; does this imply there are only Fire-type hiccups and no Cold-type hiccups? Such statements are overly extreme.
Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Chifuling (Poria cum Rubro), Pipaye (Loqu Leaf).
Decoct with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus).
This formula treats hiccups caused by Phlegm-Fire and is not suitable for hiccups caused by Stomach Cold. Misapplication will aggravate mild cases.
Baiguo (Ginkgonis Semen) 21 pieces (stir-fried until yellow), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, processed with ginger juice), Kuandonghua (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus) 3 qian, Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex, honey-fried), Suzi (Perillae Fructus) 2 qian, Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, peeled and removed of tips), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) 1.5 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian.
Decoct with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens).
To treat Phlegm, one must first regulate Qi. Without venting and draining, Phlegm becomes tenacious and obstructive. This is the rationale for using Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) in Dingchuan Tang (Dingchuan Decoction).
