Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) 3 qian, Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 2 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian (prepared with honey).
Add ginger and decoct.
This formula uses Shengma and Gegen to ascend and disperse the Yangming channel. Fearing that the ascending action might be too strong, causing wheezing and chest fullness, Shaoyao and Gancao are used for their sour astringent and sweet relaxing properties to assist in restraint. Ultimately, they mutually restrict each other; it is better to use Gegen alone as the sovereign drug, adding Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), etc. For macules and rashes, or seasonal epidemics, adding Mabo (Cordyceps Militaris? Note: Traditionally *Tussilagine Flos* or similar, but WHO term often refers to specific herbal material, here likely referring to *Tussilaginis Flos* or similar throat clearing herb, strictly translating as Mabo) and Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) is acceptable.
Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) 3 qian, Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) 3 qian, Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) 1 qian, Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) 1 qian, Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) 3 qian, Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 1 qian, Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) 1 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian.
Add three slices of ginger, two dates, and one qian of Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), decoct and take.
This syndrome presents without hypochondriac pain or deafness, having no relation to the Shaoyang channel. Using Chaihu first is like opening the door to invite thieves, which is the first contraindication; Shigao is used in Daqinglong Tang specifically for irritability. Using Shigao here arbitrarily damages the stomach qi, which is the second contraindication. This formula must absolutely not be used.
Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) 6 qian, Qianhu (Peucedani Radix) 6 qian, Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) 6 qian, Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) 5 qian, Sangpi (Mori Cortex) 4 qian, Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) 4 qian, Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica) 7 qian, Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) 1 liang, Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) 1 liang.
Add three slices of ginger and twenty grains of Chidou (Sojae Preparata), decoct.
Shengma is suitable for treating seasonal epidemics and pestilence, resolving toxins and eliminating rashes; however, it should not be used lightly in ordinary Yangming syndromes. Moreover, using Shigao as the sovereign drug aims to clear the lung and stomach heat. Does one not worry that excessive cold may damage the stomach, leading to unpredictable changes in the condition!
Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) 1.5 qian, Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) 1.5 qian, Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) 1.5 qian, Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) 0.5 qian, Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian.
Add fresh ginger and scallion white, decoct.
This formula serves as a substitute for formulas such as Mahuang Tang and Guizhi Tang, and is actually quite safe. However, Shengdi is overly cloying and greasy; it is better to still use Shaoyao from Guizhi Tang, which astringes yin without being cloying. Regarding its pungent, dispersing, and drying nature, it is contraindicated for those with yin deficiency and qi weakness, which is already clearly stated.
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) 4 liang, Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) 14 liang, Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) 4 liang, Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 4 liang, Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) 4 liang, Zisu (Perillae Folium) 4 liang, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 4 liang, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 4 liang, Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) 4 liang, Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) 4 liang.
Take 3 qian per dose, add five slices of ginger and three stems of scallion, decoct.
Seasonal pathogens and plagues are caused by seasonal pestilential qi. Therefore, this formula uses many aromatic substances to repel filth among the ascending and dispersing drugs. Its pungent and fierce nature moves readily; although it contains Shaoyao and Gancao, they cannot restrain it. It should not be used as a general agent for exterior syndromes of the yang channels.
