Radix Rehmanniae Preparata (Shu Di Huang) 8 liang, Fructus Corni (Shan Zhu Yu) 4 liang, Rhizoma Dioscoreae (Shan Yao) 4 liang, Poria (Fu Ling) 3 liang, Radix Alismatis (Ze Xie) 3 liang, Cortex Moutan (Mu Dan Pi) 3 liang, Radix Anemarrhenae (Zhi Mu) 2 liang, Cortex Phellodendri (Huang Bo) 2 liang.
Made into honey pills.
Although Zhibai Bawei Wan (Anemarrhena and Phellodendron Eight-Ingredient Pill) is said to nourish water to control fire, its bitter-cold nature is excessive, merely damaging stomach qi, thereby preventing the generation of kidney water. It is more appropriate to use the method of using shellfish-type minerals to subdue yang, generate essence, and marrow. It may be used temporarily for conditions such as evil fire in the kidney or persistent erection without flaccidity.
Polygonum Multiflorum (He Shou Wu), red and white varieties, each 1 jin (peeled, sliced, mixed with black beans, steamed nine times and dried nine times), White Poria (Bai Fu Ling, mixed with milk) half a jin, Achyranthes Root (Niu Xi, soaked in wine, steamed together with He Shou Wu from the seventh to the ninth time), Angelica Sinensis (Dang Gui, washed in wine), Lycium Fruit (Gou Qi, steamed in wine), Cuscuta Seed (Tu Si Zi, soaked and steamed in wine) each half a jin, Psoralea Fruit (Po Gu Zhi, stir-fried mixed with black sesame seeds) 4 liang.
Made into honey pills.
This is a formula that warms and tonifies the Mingmen (Gate of Life) and Kidney, while also grasping and receiving the lower yuan. Rehmannia (Di Huang) tonifies the yin of the kidney, while Polygonum Multiflorum (He Shou Wu) tonifies the yang of the kidney; each serves as the sovereign drug (Jun Yao). They should not be combined indiscriminately, as each has its specific indications.
Prepared Rehmannia (Shu Di) 2 liang, Chinese Yam (Shan Yao) 1.5 qian, Achyranthes Root (Niu Xi, soaked in wine) 1.5 qian, Lycium Fruit (Gou Qi, soaked in wine) 1.5 qian, Fructus Corni (Shan Zhu Yu), Poria (Fu Ling, mixed with milk), Eucommia Bark (Du Zhong, stir-fried with ginger juice), Polygala Root (Yuan Zhi, heart removed), Broussonetia Fruit (Chu Shi, steamed in wine), Schisandra Berry (Wu Wei Zi, stir-fried), Fennel Seed (Xiao Hui Xiang, stir-fried), Morinda Root (Ba Ji Tian, soaked in wine), Cistanche Stem (Rou Cong Rong, soaked in wine) each 1 liang, Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome (Shi Chang Pu) 5 qian.
Added jujube flesh, made into honey pills.
This formula primarily focuses on warming and tonifying the Spleen and Kidney, incorporating the intention of moistening Lung metal and unblocking the mountains and marshes, which is excellent in design. However, it is slightly concerning that Yuan Zhi and Shi Chang Pu are too opening and penetrating; they are unsuitable for conditions involving emaciation, weakness, and night sweats. It would be more appropriate to selectively use Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza) and Bai Ren (Bai Zi Ren) instead.
Atractylodes Macrocephala (Cang Zhu, soaked in wine), Prepared Rehmannia (Shu Di Huang) 1 jin, Schisandra Berry (Wu Wei Zi) half a jin, Dried Ginger (Gan Jiang) (1 liang in spring and winter, 7 qian in autumn, 5 qian in summer).
Made into honey pills using jujube flesh.
This formula removes dampness from the Spleen and moistens dryness in the Kidney, being extremely pure and clean. However, it is suitable for those with excess dampness; for those with blood deficiency, dosage adjustments should be considered.
